Corduroy lives in the rural community of Sisters, Oregon, about 100 miles (160 km) southeast of Portland, and spends plenty of time outside, the organization said in a statement.
Since kittenhood, Corduroy has lived with owner Ashley Reed Okura, who was only seven years old when the cat entered her life, Guinness officials said.
"The secret has been allowing him to be a cat - hunting and getting plenty of love," Reed Okura said in a statement.

(22,000 posts)Sounds like he has always had lots of exercise and been taken care of well. I believe 16-20 years is about average for cats.
Hurray Corduroy from Oregon!

(2,841 posts)I have noticed that domesticated cats that are "allowed to be out" tend to be more active and thus live longer than a cat that stays indoors all the time. My cat is going to be 16 years old and still runs around in our backyard, crazy as he was when he was only 6. lol

(50,310 posts)I used to let my cats out and I'm sure one died prematurely because of a fisher cat attack. If you can cage in an area outside where they're protected, fine. Otherwise, it's a dangerous world for kitties out there. My current 2 are happy roaming our big house and hunting mice that make their way through our 200 year old stone foundation. The oldest is 15 and she's in great health. I expect her to make at least 20.
