Patrick Stewart Says 'Star Trek' Could Teach Politicians A Valuable Lesson

Patrick Stewart Says 'Star Trek' Could Teach Politicians A Valuable Lesson
The actor wishes more officials were like his character, Jean-Luc Picard.

Sir Patrick Stewart has a wonderful suggestion for politicians across the globe: watch more "Star Trek."

The actor stopped by HuffPost Live on Wednesday along with the cast of his new Starz comedy, "Blunt Talk," which premieres Aug. 22, and he responded to a viewer question about which of his past characters would make for a good role model.

"I wish that politicians would spend more time watching 'Star Trek: The Next Generation,' because unlike my predecessor, Captain James T. Kirk, Jean-Luc Picard believed first and foremost in negotiation," Stewart said. "He was a diplomat before he was a warrior -- talk, talk, talk and keep on talking. And I think that would be a great message for the world to absorb because people don't have to die to achieve a satisfactory solution to anything."

Big words, abstract concepts, mutual respect between and among diverse cultures, and, above all, a science-based world? Not to mention that Roddenberry always strongly implied that Earth of the Federation era was both atheist and socialist.

May as well try to teach your cat calculus.

I think Picard would prefer to discuss as Stewart says.

He liked his fighting on a one being-to-one being level. Looks more manly that way,

TOS looked pretty silly after twenty years. STNG still looks ridiculously and plausibly futuristic after 25. And tell me those tablet computers the Enterprise D crew always used weren't the inspiration for the iPad. I dare ya!
