A Jeb Bush town hall Wednesday ended on a testy note, as Black Lives Matter protesters clashed with the presidential candidates' supporters after he faced a series of challenging questions.
Bush, responding to a woman's query about the disproportionate number of minorities killed by police and their treatment in the criminal justice system, said there was no question that racism still existed in the United States and that leaders needed to engage in communities that felt disenfranchised.

(30,439 posts)The truth is BLM goes after everyone, even Obama. They interrupted Obama's speech in Selma.
It's obviously harder to go after Hillary and Obama because of their secret service protection and tighter security, but the truth is BLM goes after everyone they can.

(57,936 posts)That's what they did to O'Malley at Netroots Nation and to Bernie in the Seattle afternoon rally.
That they demonstrate, that they ask tough questions, even that they barge in at the beginning of the speeches -- all fine. But when they don't allow the scheduled speakers to speak or respond to their issues, then that is a rather undemocratic, autocratic, dictatorial thing to do. That puts them on the same level as the white supremacists they rightfully hate and alienates potential supporters.
Their cause is excellent. Their methods in certain specific situations have been very counterproductive.

Bernie fans are pretty badass, but people who don't consider themselves allies are undoubtedly even scarier.

(57,936 posts)than in front of the Bernie audiences which are by nature and ideology, very favorable to their cause.
It takes courage to talk about racism to Republicans. Great courage. And the Republicans and right-wing Democrats are the people who need to be persuaded to support change. Because they are holding the change up.
