So the middle figure is about correct. In Cleveland, this event has been hyped for over a YEAR.

(6,230 posts)I disagree with your views on Hillary and know that millions of women are right there with me.
Will you support Hillary if she gets the nomination? I will support Bernie if he gets the nomination. '
Why is it that the repubs want Bernie to be the Dem nominee? Someone please answer me.

(71 posts)If Hillary wins the nomination, I will happily support her.
The conservative blogs and websites that I keep up with see Bernie is about as much of a non-factor as Ron Paul was to the left. They see him as a "Fringe Wing Nut" that is just buying a vote with free government goodies. I believe that they don't see him as a viable candidate in the first place. If he does win the primaries, then the Republicans feel that the "Socialist" tag will be enough to scare away the mainstream swing voters. But I think that the ongoing four year character assassination of Hillary Clinton, is still their primary strategy for winning the general. Bengazi, Email servers (BTW don't these folks remember why Scooter Libby went to prison,) and the Clinton Foundation, are all you hear about democratic politics on the right.

(5,279 posts)He is being purposely ignored or labeled fringe by the msm.
The word Hillary is being said hundreds of times more frequently than the word Bernie evey day all day long on TV.
The msm is owned and controlled by conservative republicans. Superpacs are mainly controlled and funded by conservatives.
Where is the great cry for Bernie from republicans? I haven't heard it.
Of course I will, and I think we will, support the candidate of the Democratic party. We just think Bernie Sanders would be a more effective as the leader of our country.

(15,480 posts)because Republicans' decades long dislike of her & Bill will bring will bring the GOP base out to the polls in record numbers.
Who does the GOP want to run against in the General? Trust me... that is not Sanders... it is not O'Malley, hell, it is not Chaffee or Webb. They are desperate to run against HRC. There is an epic amount of Op Research and she will get the base to go vote in November. Sanders... Webb, O'Malley. no not really.

I don't know where you pulled your "repubs want Bernie to be the Dem nominee" statement from, but if it's anything more than wishful thinking, provide your source or admit you're wrong. I just googled Republicans want Hillary for nominee and came up with the following.
Republicans for Hillary, Part 2 - Why conservatives want her to run.
This is from her 2004 primary effort, but the same is still true.
http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/chatterbox/2003/09/republicans_for_hillary_part_2.html
1. She brings a divided right together. There are all sorts of interesting fissures these days among conservatives. Neoconservatives are divided about whether to remain faithful to Donald Rumsfeld. Supply-siders (a group that, for convenience' sake, Chatterbox lumps with Paul Krugman's "Starve-the-Beasters" are mad at the neocons for waging a costly war that makes future tax cuts unthinkable. The military is mad at the Bush White House for stretching its resources too thin (a subject Chatterbox hopes to expand on later this week). Libertarians are mad at the Bush White House for post-9/11 infringements of civil liberties.
How to reunite these warring factions? Imagine an imminent presidential run by Hillary Clinton. Clinton-hating is perhaps the sole unifying principle left in the GOP.
2. Nostalgia. The longing to re-create Clinton-bashing unity isn't based solely on political calculation. The right actually misses its halcyon days of concocting insane Clinton conspiracy theories (remember the Mena airport?). Bliss it was in that dawn to be alive! Now that they're in power, folks like Theodore Olson have to act respectable. It's mostly worth it, but it's a lot less fun.
3. Fund raising. Some of the longing to re-create Clinton-bashing unity is based on political calculation. If the rank and file can be riled up into thinking a Clinton restoration is imminent, they will give generously to Republican candidates and causes.
4. Belief that American politics is dynastic. For years, Republicans braced themselves for a Kennedy restoration that never happened. With George W. Bush, it did happen. Is this the future pattern of presidential politics? Chatterbox suspects not, but conservatives are temperamentally sympathetic to primogeniture. That's how Dubya got elected in the first place!
5. Belief in their own Hillary caricature. The standard Republican view of the former first lady is that she's a power-grabbing b****. By pretending that Hillary's scheming to seize the presidency, conservatives can claim to offer evidence for their view.
5. A longing to make the 2004 presidential race interesting. Conservative journalists are no less inclined than other journalists to root for developments that will spice up political coverage. A Hillary bid would certainly achieve that.

(9,897 posts)"I am a Democratic Socialist"...words Bernie freely admits to and words that have absolutely no inherent issue aside from the propensity of low-information voters to believe that means "Communist". If Bernie is the nominee, the word "socialist" will be the boogie man of the campaign. You'll hear it roughly a trillion times before the election and you'll have to search long and hard to ever find it used in proper context or with a proper explanation.
The GOP wants Bernie because they see his identity as easy money with their base and an easy way to scare limp-willed, low-information, horse-race "moderates" and "independents".
There really is no other reason.

(2,895 posts)Sanders is a real (Democratic) Socialist-- a GOOD thing, in my opinion--so this time, they don't even have to lie about it. Although, as you mentioned, they will misrepresent (to put it kindly) just what that means.

(15,480 posts)But lack of passion (or even a perceived lack of passion) is dangerous for her regardless of how serious a candidate Sanders winds up being. Republican base voters will be fired up beyond belief to take back the White House -- and vote against Clinton -- next November. She has to find ways to create that passion for herself within the Democratic base.

(35,704 posts)Is that they are about a decade behind in their grasp of reality. Also, they don't read books, for the most part, except for propaganda books from Regnery.
Repubs don't understand true grassroots. They understand astroturf. They understand getting paid to be on a bus to go see bush. Those things they understand, but they don't understand true grassroots, such as what you are seeing with Bernie.
Here's how I know this. For four years I was on an armchair detective website. This site attracted a lot of wingnutz, as they were called at the time. My understanding of how they "thought" was gradual and I put it together over a period of about four or five years. Republicans are no mystery--they're just people who don't have a lot of curiosity, they don't read, and they were probably raised in authoritarian households, for the most part. They're also kind of simple in a strange sort of way. These are all generalizations; of course, like anything, there are exceptions.

(9,350 posts)The first picture could not have been during the actual debate. Even though most of the people participating in that debate were not very interesting I would think more than a hand full of people would have wanted to see them debate. In addition, I am pretty certain the debate was free, so, I am pretty certain thousands of people would have gone to the debate just to be able to say they went to the debate.
