There is this new app for experiencing life raw and unfiltered and not through your phone.

http://www.alternet.org/culture/why-hot-new-way-be-authentic-social-media-will-make-you-look-even-more-phony

It's name is "Beme". You post a 4-second-selfie to your followers which isn't permanently stored (and cannot be liked or disliked). And the trigger is by holding your phone to your heartbeat.

That's it.

This allows you to be authentic, to be sincere. By posting things that demonstrate how authentic and sincere you are. By making the raw and unfiltered decision "Dude, this is such a great moment right now, better not ruin this. I should get out my smartphone and make a statement that gets the real "me"."

Tired of everybody being fake on social media and you being a slave to your phone?
There's an app for that!

3. They've been around for centuries

We call the older selfies "portraits," but it's the same thing: monuments to vanity, previously couched in hushed historical reverence. Hell, the National Portrait Gallery is full of them.

For that matter, some of the earliest photographs were selfies.

The primary difference is that they can be snapped and shared more easily today. Other than that, there is nothing new under the sun.

10. You just need to get the people sit still long enough to paint the picture.

"Please have a seat."
"Thanks."
"And here's the rattlesnake..."
"What the fuck???"
"Oh, you shouldn't do that. You better sit still for the next few hours and don't move. She's a little bit testy today."

7. Oh, there are other methods.

- A european city, don't remember which one, experimented with playing classical music over public speakers in the pedestrian zone. Somehow teenagers started evading that location...

- Another experiment was with a high-pitched sound like tinnitus. Young people can hear very high sounds, but as you get older, the threshold gets lower and lower. Teenagers were annoyed by the high pitch while older citizens simply couldn't hear it.

9. A business in Pittsburgh tried that for a while

Played classical music near the U Pitt campus, to discourage loiterers. Not sure how long it went on or how successful it was, but I remember it being a bit of a buzz around here.

Note: was from a legendary (and probably apochryphal) fault description for a radar system in military aviation.

"Radar is inop in Over Field Flight mode."
