I hear this term frequently..including in this piece in the Huffington Post..
Reaction against Schummers veto threat on the Iranian Deal..
My point is that people who claim to be anti-war are against all wars no matter what the reason..I personally knew many of them during the Vietnam War period ...
But here is just another example of how main stream media dumbs down readers into thinking that anyone who is for a sensible treaty with Iran is an anti-war Liberal.. What a crock of shit..

(28,979 posts)I was thinking more in terms of Iraq, Vietnam. That kind of war. Colonialism, imperialism, wars with high civilian casualties. Wars like the one the GOP is itching to start with Iran. Yeah, I am anti-war from way back.
End Of The Road
(1,397 posts)...helps the media mold public opinion even if no one reads a single word of the accompanying article, heaven forbid doing any further research.
The media meme currently bothering me most is "Pro-Russian Rebels" in obvious reference to current events in Ukraine. It's a double whammy: In the U.S., to be pro-Russian makes you a commie or worse, and the noun rebels refers to those who use force against established authority. So these guys must be the BAD GUYS, right? But is that really true? What if we called them the "Anti-Kiev Faction?" Now that would require the reader to delve further into history, culture, politics of Ukraine to interpret current events and...OMG...possibly form an opinion different from the one our leaders want us to have.
Thanks for turning me on to "Anti-War Liberal." It's a double whammy opinion-maker, too, and I will be giving it more thought. Probably because of my age Anti-War conjures up those dirty hippies (I was one) from the '60s. Liberal is now mostly pejorative, why I don't know, but to opinion-formulating media why doesn't matter. Pejorative is what counts.

(14,912 posts)a pacifist, nor am I one of the so-called "tree-hugging, latte-sipping, Birkenstock wearing" variety of a Liberal. I am a gun owning, 2nd Amendment supporting, pro death penalty supporting variety of Liberal that will take you out of this world if you fuck with me or my family.
I have had 3 different people threaten to burn my house down while my kids and I were sleeping. After talking to the County Sheriff and a Judge, I posted "NO TRESPASSING" signs at the appropriate distances on my property and, because I live 15 miles from town and we only have 3 offices on duty at night and it could take them 30 minutes or more to respond to a 9-1-1 call, I have a paper signed by the Judge that if I catch ANYONE on my property in the middle of the night with a gas can in their hands, I can shoot first and ask questions later, without fear from charges being filed against me. I NEVER *want* to be put in that position, but if I am, I WILL NOT HESITATE to pull the trigger. When you give me the choice the lives of my kids and me vs. you, take a wild guess at who is going to lose...
Does that clear *THAT* up for you? My positions are one reason that I'm not very popular around here, but then again, I didn't sign up here to enter a popularity contest, and i most certainly will NEVER win a Mr. Congeniality contest, but do I sound like I give a fuck? I didn't think so!

(4,259 posts)Edward Bernays was a pioneer in the area of propaganda and shaping public opinion.
"Born in 1891, when he was just a year old he was brought by his parents from his native Austria to America. It is hard to overestimate his mark on the American social consciousness. Bernays worked for the administration of Woodrow Wilson during World War 1. As part of the Committee on Public Information, he was influential in promoting the idea that America's war efforts were primarily aimed at bringing democracy to all of Europe". That's right. It was the idea of Bernays to sell warfare as the spreading of democracy, an idea that rules the American thought process to this very day."
This country has made persuasion and deceit into a fine art.
