Man attacks La Crosse police car with his head, fists
A La Crosse police officer responding to an accident says a man suddenly jumped on the squad car and deliberately smashed the windshield with his head and fists.
Police were called about an accident on Cameron Street and a man physically attacking people after an accident on Cameron Street Tuesday afternoon.
Officer Mark Rosenmeier says as he arrived, a 25-year-old Sparta man jumped on the hood of the police car, deliberately pounded his head into the windshield, and then began punching the windshield with his fists.
The man then attacked Rosenmeier, whose Taser and pepper spray didnt stop the man.
Other police officers managed to restrain the man.
Rosenmeier was treated at a hospital for minor injuries and returned to duty the same day.
Police are holding the Sparta man in the La Crosse County Jail on possible charges of battery to a police officer, resisting arrest, criminal damage to property, battery, 2nd offense operating while intoxicated, disorderly conduct and violating probation.
