Fox News host Megyn Kelly hit Donald Trump over comments he's made about women, and the billionaire real estate mogul wasn't very happy about it.

(2,427 posts)Let me try and explain why: through all the ugly comments he's made and will make, it doesn't matter to a lot on the right. Those foul comments he has made to women aren't secrets and yet he is the front runner. His supporters don't seem to care or actually like a bonafide asshat. He was arrogant and smug and that appeals to a lot of those on the right.
Technically, from my liberal point of view, I think Kasich won the debate as he was the only sane person up there. This was the first Republican debate though and sanity need not apply.

(57,936 posts)Absolutely. It's awful, but that is the way it is.
I'm not fond of Megyn, but he was so rude and mean to her. I thought she might cry, and I suspect it takes a lot to get a tear out of her or even to get almost a tear out of her. She is pretty steeled, but Trump is downright mean.

(11,936 posts)However, he is probably the most sane person on that stage tonight. He has a soul and is capable of humility. I disagree with a lot of things he has done as Governor, but I respect that he participated in the Medicaid expansion here. If he won the nomination, I will vote against him a third time, but I do wish the Republican base would lean more toward someone like that. He is one of the few rational ones left. At least then, the prospect of a Republican president wouldn't be nearly as scary. The whole party has lost their way when it comes to civility and statesmanship. Kasich would be the kind of candidate to turn that around a little perhaps. But thats another reason he will never be their nomineee, lol. There is no room in the modern Republican party for moderates or even almost moderates.

(2,427 posts)He seemed rational and therefore rejected by the right. Cheers!

(10,176 posts)He was a turn off to me. I loved it when Christie and Paul started to fight. That was fun! Rand Paul needs to have some serious dental work, at least a cleaning.
Kasich seems sane except when he's jumping around and his facial tics are in full swing. Then he looks like he's off his meds.

(21,925 posts)He'd lose, the Republican nominee would lose, and Fox News would look like shit for having done its best hit job to get Trump. Unlike the other candidates, Trump got one personal attack question after another to which he couldn't respond with substance on political issues at all: why are you a Democrat and have contributed to Democrats, why did you call women names, why did you declare for bankruptcy, etc. As soon as the debate ended, Frank Luntz had another phoney Fox focus group ready to proclaim Trump the loser and Huckabee (who got softball questions all night) the winner.
