And suddenly moves to another state. President and VP can't be from the same state.

Have they announced who will get the first question? That would be my guess for who tries to attack Trump first.

^snip^

"Marco Rubio looks like one of the best possible vice presidential candidates in the Republican field," O’Donnell said on his show on April 14, 2015. "But the one person who can’t choose him is Jeb Bush, because the president and vice president can't be from the same state."

While we're still waiting for Bush to make his candidacy official, O'Donnell's claim that "the president and vice president can't be from the same state," got our heads spinning. If correct, that would rule out a Florida ticket of Bush/Rubio, or a Texas ticket of Rick Perry and Ted Cruz for that matter, or any combination that includes Bush, Rubio and two other Florida residents and possible contenders -- Ben Carson and Mike Huckabee.

So is it true?

The answer is no. Neither the Constitution nor the Electoral College prevents Bush from picking a fellow Floridian or any candidate from choosing a running mate from the same state.

More at link but sticking to 4 paragraph rule.

do this.

Imagine if Jeb is the nominee and he runs with Rubio. The electoral college vote is close such that without Florida's EV's no one can get to 270. Jeb is elected, but the electors from Florida cant vote for Rubio to give him the necessary votes. The Senate then votes for who gets to be Vice President. Assume the Democrats have taken over the senate in the election. The new Democratic Senate could elect ANYONE to be Vice President. THey could pick the most ornery Democrat to be VP. That person would act as President when Jeb was unavailable, they would preside over the senate and could call press conferences and criticize the President on a regular basis.

Why would anyone risk that nightmare scenario if they don't have to?

I wonder if the original idea came from Article II, Section 1, Clause 3: "The Electors shall meet in their respective States, and vote by Ballot for two Persons, of whom one at least shall not be an Inhabitant of the same State with themselves." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Article_Two_of_the_United_States_Constitution#Clause_3:_Electors

it could have hung on as a misconception even after the Twelfth Amendment changed that part of the Constitution

Thanks!

Though no thanks for giving the horrible image of Jeb and Marco ruling the country.

I've been breaking my brain trying to install WordPress on my website. Switching back to politics is going to make me crazy.

Check me on this: So there is no constitutional restriction on President and Vice President being from the same state but it would really screw up the ticket's chance of staying whole in a close election. So for all practical purposes it is safer if the two are not from the same state.

the moderator, bang right off the bat. Not sure Chris Wallace will ask Rubio first. But if he does throw the first question to Rubio, I'm not sure Rubio will handle it all that well, particularly if it is related to something a gov. or former gov. has expertise in. Rubio is way above his head in these waters. He shudda waited...

If people think this is going to be a real slug fest, name calling event they will be very disappointed IMO. It will be very poor, boring TV that will appeal only to the dead enders.
