Burned dog finds new home with young burn victim

ANTIOCH -- It was shared suffering that brought a tiny puppy and young girl together, but their blossoming friendship holds the promise of many happy days ahead.

"He's my baby -- he's definitely my baby," said Alameda resident Chloe Levenson, who last week adopted the 3-pound, 6-month-old Chihuahua with severe injuries that had required months of medical care.

Rescuers found the puppy behind Antioch's animal shelter on March 30 with severe chemical burns to his ears -- both of which had to be amputated -- and stretching the entire length of his belly.

Chloe, 12, can relate. After seven surgeries, she still undergoes treatment for the second- and third-degree burns she suffered as a baby when someone spilled scalding tea on her.
