I know there's a lot of distaste for watching the upcoming GOP debate, with some opining that the Democrats are doing themselves a disservice for even mentioning it much less telling people to watch.
But here's the thing. They have no credible ideas, they have no credible positions, they have nothing that will speak to the American people. John Huntsman if he was running maybe could've provided some sane input, but he's not, and in the end there will be no positions that the American people desire. They will play solely to their base, and it's likely that Trump will win simply because he has no filter and his opinions play to the lowest most debased part of the Republican base (the Tea Partiers).
I am looking forward to it. It's going to be hilarious. Hell, it's going to be so stupid that if you try to make a drinking game of it you may indeed wind up in the hospital for alcohol poisoning. The thing is not going to be anything serious. It's going to be the clown car in full force. The only thing the GOP has going for it is that they'll probably weed out half the debaters in the first round.
And even still I think the psychopath Trump will come out on top.
Talk about popcorn.
I'm sorry if people disdain me for wanting to see the clusterfuck, but I'm sorry, it's going to be fucking hilarious.
NOTE: This post was locked in General Discussion: Primaries because I posted it in the "wrong forum." The Host locking did so purely on a "technical" basis. Original post here.

(31,823 posts)I know I'm not voting for them and I think all this brouhaha (by the Republicans) is silly because we all know it's going to be Jeb Bush at the end of the day.

(62,270 posts)After a drink or two. My original post was optimistic, I don't think I can watch it live with my nephew and niece wanting to go to bed. Still, exciting either way. I hope I can / will post in the DU live threads. As I said in my original thread it'd probably be on my phone. So I hope no one slights me for short blurbs.
The clown car is hilarious.

(7,908 posts)wait for Huckabee to bring up Trump's 2000 support of reproductive rights* and then watch the blood and fur start flying. It's going to be friggin' priceless.
*Alternate scenario: Jeb Bush brings up Trump's 2000 advocacy of increasing taxes on the rich.
OMG! Epic doesn't even begin to describe it.

(146,309 posts)it was in the wrong forum. The admins of this site made it clear that only Democratic Primary-related posts could be posted in General Discussion: Primaries. The forum hosts' only job is to follow the Statement of purpose for each forum. For GD-P, that SOP reads:
This was clarified by EarlG in the Announcements forum:
From EarlG's June 25th announcement post: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10134641:
DU's Forum Hosts are volunteers who help the administrators keep the forums on track. If you have questions about what hosts do, you can post them in the Ask the Administrators forum. Your post was about Republican candidates for President and the upcoming debate. It is not about the Democratic Primaries or candidates in any way. Because of that it is not within the allowed subject matter for General Discussion: Primaries. It's fine in GD. The Hosts are just doing what they volunteered to do.
Note: I'm one of 30 Forum hosts.

(62,270 posts)I would have expected you to let it go. It was hardly some huge issue. The SOP does not say GD P is only for the Dem primary and no GOP primary. But you enjoy your narrow interpretation.

(3,894 posts)that posters get their posts locked and many are offended, unaware of the distinction. It would be such a simple solution and the hosts wouldn't have to reiterate the rules.
Was the original Forum, Politics 2015 exclusively for discussions about Democrats?
I'm not complaining, just asking...
MineralMan
(146,309 posts)do with that. You could ask in the Ask the Administrators forum. I think the question has been asked already, and the answer was that the Stop screen you see when you click to start a new post makes it clear. It seems clear enough to me.
The forum hosts are doing what the admins asked them to do. When I lock a post as a host, I quote the rules in my locking post, too.
Most DUers seem to understand, and not many posts are being locked, anyhow.

(4,076 posts)But we are going to watch. I'm really worried about getting a President Trump out of all of this. As bad as GWB was, I think Trump would be worse.

(111,261 posts)Had they restricted it to the top 5, it might have been a more manageable format. As it is, there will be ten suits all giving their canned speeches and that will be it.
Republicans won't notice, of course, and will give Trump the win only because he will be the loudest and most cocksure.

(154,021 posts)Sorry if that does not play well with the hyper partisan view.
Tonight in the early night, I think Fiorina did well, and in fact very well indeed... and I would also say that Graham probably will not understand why his prescription for more war will not play well. The rest did not make too much of an impression on me. So will have to listen to the tape again and see about that.

I think Trump is hilarious and I really hope to see some great zingers and confrontations...But there's always the chance that I'll be more disgusted than entertained. We'll see.

(13,081 posts)1. I won't be a dictator like Obama, plus guns are freedom.
2. I am a misanthrope who is repulsed by humanity; the only difference is the degree of similarity.
3. I have but one solution to literally all foreign policy questions: war. War on ISIS or Iraq or Drugs or Immigrants or Pakistan or Iran. War is literally my only solution.
Please vote for me in the upcoming Republican primary, because we are all mindlessly interchangeable.
