Quick Quiz: Who was Planned Parenthood's treasurer in 1947

If you said Prescott Bush, you'd be correct
That's right... Jeb's granddaddy was a founding member of 'The Birth Control League'.
The name was changed in 1942 to Planned Parenthood because of the controversy of the name.
And when Bush ran for public office the name Birth Control League would have turned off a lot of Catholics
Prescott was PP's treasurer for their first national fundraising drive in 1947

Just a little tidbit of history

The Bushes, like the Rockefellers -- who were the major supporters of the BCL -- believed the general human population were like domesticated animals, and shouldn't be entirely self-selecting and freely reproducing. Spay and neuter. Better babies, and all that entails.

I'll hold jeb accountable for his political views. I think if people wanted to hurt Jeb, they would bring up his brother, that is more concrete in the eyes of public perception.

I won't even really hold jeb bush accountable for the actions of his brother. Jeb bush in not George bush. If he defends his brother, thats one thing, but I'm fine holding George bush accountable for Georges actions, and Prescot accountable for Prescots actions.

Especially since its original name would make today's reichties more upset than the ones from 1940

It seems that it was no liability to have rubbed shoulders with the Germans after Hitler took power and as World War Two was ending. In addition to PBush, the Dulles Bros., other notable Wall Street lawyers and bankers with corporate clients thrived during the Cold War along with their corporate clients despite their trading with the enemy and close Fascist ties.

It seemed that the Cold War excused just about everyone and everything.

The counseling center where I volunteered in the early 70's had a PP clinic upstairs once a week where one could get BC prescribed. I'd thought it was a contemporary development.

If that's what your referring to. PP wasn't founded on the Pill.

Although the FDA approved the first oral contraceptive in 1960, contraceptives were not available to married women in all states until Griswold v. Connecticut in 1965 and were not available to unmarried women in all states until Eisenstadt v. Baird in 1972.

One of the big points we were supposed to stress when making referrals to the clinic was the anonymity. Aren't you glad our Republican masters would like to take us back to those halcyon days... and before.

A PP representative came and gave a talk while I was in college (57-61). She told us about planning our family size responsibly and detailed pre-pill birth control methods which we could use like prophylactics, rhythm method, vaginal spermicides, diaphragms, etc. No mention was made of abortion as a means of "family control" to be used.
