FYI - great format ! Really good questions although moderator leaned right. Like the way they just took one at a time and asked them a couple questions.
I listened to them with a complete open mind, like I was not affiliated with the Democrats, just to their tone and inspiration factor
Totally just my take
Exhibited some degree of intelligence/thoughtfulness
Santorum
Rand Paul
Chris Christie
Scott Walker
Totally boring, uninspiring, and negative
Bush
Pataki
Kasich
Zero Charisma - Very Tight-Assy
Jindal
Rubio
Seems like he is on drugs - amazing he is still in there
Carson
Just plain annoying
Fiorino
Totally Whacky
Cruz
Graham
Perry

(42,770 posts)hyper and Graham - who is just so 100% focused on ISIS and doom and gloom.
Wished everyone here had watched it. Very interesting study.
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)Kasich - only one who showed some degree of heart and care about those in "the shadows"
Graham and Jindal batshit crazy
Christie most calm - most others frantically nervous

Your mileage may vary.

(42,770 posts)having them each in the spotlight for a brief time - really laid them out there bare. Some were very nervous.

(42,770 posts)But, hope (not really), they took away what I did....with maybe slightly Kasich and Christie - NO ONE had an inspiring message whatsoever.
If I was a republican consultant, I would tell them to find some inspiring words, talk about bringing back manufacturing jobs, talk about anything but divisiveness and war and stopping millions from getting healthcare.
Biggest Issues Mentioned:
ISIS
Iran
Repeal ACA
Lower biz taxes and regulation
Surprised - not that much about illegal immigration

(7,613 posts)I went to a fundraiser for a Democratic candidate running in a local "nonpartisan" race. The Republican brand tailored for their primary voters is truly repulsive. Saw a recent poll where the majority of Republicans agreed that all illegals should be expelled from the country. The Republicans are 100% invested in hate and fear. It's all they've got.

What a whiny, thin-skinned baby.

(13,297 posts)I liked the format, although the stage-crossing with announcement did seem a bit dating-game or beauty-contest-ish... was interesting to hear the answers but definitely you could see the moderator was manipulating the time of certain answers/people to favor some over others. I'm sure someone will do a chart showing who was given the least amount of time/most amount of time.
Flops:
Graham - nervous and fell on his face, couldn't talk, boogie-man tactics vs. inspiring
Jindal - swallowed 30 caffeine pills and lacked gravitas - would be good with stack of coloring books
Bush - totally soggy day-old bread - both his presence and answers - 100% lost this to everyone else
Rubio - inspiring talker, but too moderate for the GOP to allow through the process - needs water
Santorum - lost, just excited to be onstage - trying to recapture the thrill of yesteryear is not attractive
Christie - uninteresting, unmoving and unpresidential - the tri-fecta of 'no thanks' from the GOP
Paul - too off message - no emotional engagement - didn't seem to want to be involved and it showed
Pataki - yesterday's paper at the bottom of the birdcage, but would be good to share a cigar with, no?
Cruz - never answered questions, just liked to select speech #232.B and push 'play' - is there an off switch?
Perry - trying to be the 'Reagan' of the group, but failed to resonate - seemed to be holding back
Fiorina - unable to convincingly pull off the 'I can see her in the White House' test - sour
Walker - dry toast/cottage cheese/no flavor personality and doesn't feel presidential on any level - VP?
Carson - high? drunk? ambien? Sucked the nitrous oxide gas out of whipped cream cans before going on?
Kasich - forgettable, and very successfully at it - but at least had an ounce of compassion
Winner:
Trump, for not being paraded onstage like a cow at auction
_________
If someone forced me to pick one person who would be president and I had no other options but to select one or the world would come to an end, I'd have to say Kasich.

(42,770 posts)Your post much funnier than mine...no fair.
Thanks for the link.
I liked what Kasich said about helping those in the shadows and what Christie said about those who are addicted to drugs and alcohol. I honestly don't remember ANY other statement that had any positive value at all.
I didn't notice time inequity. Seems like they could take as much time as they wanted to answer to me. It was funny how quickly they got up when finished though. So much better than the debate format where they have to be cut off.

(3,871 posts)In his summation - at about 01:33:35 - he, if I heard it correctly, made reference to the following:

It is interesting that no one mentions Perry's role in Cameron Todd Willingham's execution or calls Perry out for allowing the execution of an innocent man:
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)Yes, he still squints. Yes, no one mentioned his indictment either. There were no gotcha moments for anyone that I can remember
Think Graham, Perry, and Jindal should be closing their campaign offices today, for sure. Pataki too. I had never heard him speak much before - had no idea how crazy he was - had figured being from a blue state he would have been cooler.
Why does Christie couple "entitlements" and "debt service" ? other than cost

(3,871 posts)I don't know much about what Christie's positions are, so I cannot comment on his linkage of those two items.
Thanks for posting the OP. It is an entertaining thread.
