I usually watch the Ed Show, Rachel and Lawrence. During the day I used to flip over to it just to pick up on some news. Today I didn't even do that and I'm not watching Rachel or Lawrence tonight either.
I've given up on MSNBC and checked out Al Jazerra today. I think that will be my go to news network. [I still wish they would change their name.]
I really hate to miss Rachel and Lawrence - but I don't know that I can trust either of them going forward, I'm thinking that they've been compromised by their bosses and that what we'll be hearing from them will be somewhat filtered or watered down. Both of them should quit on principle.
It's too bad because some good people are getting hurt by MSNBC/Comcast's decisions for programming. If MSNBC/Comcast thought their ratings sucked up to now - wait until they get their next reading after this revamping. They will really go into the toilet then.
The people that they left behind Mitchell, Scarborough, Toad, Luke, Brian, Tweety aren't worth listening to as we know that they are just mouth pieces for RSM (right stream media). You would have thought they would have found that out already on Meet the Press - that's one Sunday show I'll never watch again. Chuck Toad is a complete idiot and shouldn't even be on TV. He hides behind his goatee. What's he afraid of.

Including Rachel and Lawrence... two of the best voices we have.

Those are the channels I watch right now.

(620 posts)Combine that with putting Ed in the cable news ghetto (late afternoon on the weekend) I knew I was done with MSNBC.
Their coverage of those 3 topics let me know that I couldn't trust them to cover issues pushed by the Obama administration or their Corporate overlord truthfully. I've never seen either of them be so weak as on those topics. If these issues were happening under Bush they would be HAMMERING BUSH every night.

(28,860 posts)I haven't watched MSNBC in years... and I never looked back
or regretted it.
My Dad got sucked into the Fox propaganda machine after my
mom died, and that was so sad to see.
I hope I never have to see anything like that again. Fox really
draws people in, playing to their deepest hates and phobias and
giving them an aura of respectability or social street cred.
I don't think younger people are so susceptible to it, though.
At least, that's my hope.

(12,388 posts)nor will I.
I'm sure they're not wringing their hands at my leaving, but that's not the point. They told Ed when they let him go that they were going in a different direction. So I picked up my satchel and jumped off the bus. I know the direction I want to go in and therefore have no interest in being unwillingly highjacked.

(75,480 posts)Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Martin O'Malley. The Republicans have been talked about endlessly on all news channels today ad nauseum. Ther is nothing new to say. None of the Republican candidates with the exception of two of them should be taken seriously in a sane world. Also, Congress was debating and voting on Planned Parenthood today. I would have liked her commentary on this and what else may develop from the vote. Yet there wasn't a mention. R

(75,480 posts)in the evening and then Amy Goodman on Democracy Now!, you will be pretty well informed enough to go do your own research. You may get those gems on Free Speech TV. If your cable or satellite doesn't carry them you can stream on the internet. I'm hoping Chris and Rachel jump ship down the line and go back to their roots of delivering well informed uncensored news and analysis in the future. I'm almost certain when their contracts come up for renewal that they will have to sign up for the propaganda train or go away.

(70,695 posts)in what I watch, am more sixpack than wine, and even sort of prefer to be in that strata of what filters down to most people instead of a more rarefied few. Plus, since the '12 election I've tapered off of political shows, which I used to gobble. One time, when I rattled off summaries of all the Sunday yak shows, Bartcop said, "Are you the Rude Pundit, or what?" Not anymore.

(94,571 posts)You don't mention a specific thing they've said that you're concerned about; it seems that you've leapt to the conclusion that MSNBC -MUST- be putting the screws to them because they -MUST- have fired Ed for his comments. Never mind that they put him back into a weekday slot some years ago; never mind that they're apparently in talks to bring unrepentant liberal Keith Olbermann back; never mind Ed's ratings are the lowest on the network; it MUST be an attempt to silence liberal voices because OF COURSE Comcast/NBC is an evil corporation. You start with the conclusion, and then look for the evidence.

(15,435 posts)gave him when he came back. If anyone recalls it was "Tweety's" first Showing of the same show that re-aired at 7:00 PM. There WAS a reason for that, mainly that the time slot is considered a bit of a "dead zone" because many people are coming home from work. Not sure about Al Sharpton, more people may have gotten home but that slot isn't the best time either.
Ed was very popular before they tanked him the first time. His ratings were good and there was a big push back from "we the people" to get him back. I don't really think his ratings were the main reason, but MSNBC DID know that time slot wasn't a very good time for anyone. I'd be willing to bet if he was on at a different time things would have been different.

(94,571 posts)Perhaps you want to think about that for a minute.
ChiciB1
(15,435 posts)a concerted effort was made by people complaining, they brought him back. What doesn't make sense about that? He was very popular the first time around, as was KEITH until he stepped over the line one too many times!
And KEITH didn't want to come back, nor did Cenk Uger. Plus Dylan Rattigan who actually moved out to CA and had a few choice words to say about MSNBC. And then, Martin Bashir who apologized ON AIR for an issue that wasn't extremely controversial. I can't even remember the issue because I was so shocked they canceled him for it.
So, I can namer you THREE names who didn't want to come back, then you can add ED who didn't bother to do his last 2 shows.
So yeah, I AM saying they DIDN'T want to hear his point of view! You may have time to argue this point back and forth with me, but I don't. My AC is out and I have to get dinner ready, plus stating something ad infinitum just isn't "my style."

(4,458 posts)I Posted in Error...
It wasn't that he didn't bother...It seems (imo) M$NBC Sucker Punched him on Timing.
The explanation is in Podcast #244...I posted the 1st in error:
brooklynite
(94,571 posts)They MOVED him...from 6 PM to 10 PM to 8 PM to the weekends and back to weekdays. That seems like a pretty strong effort to find SOMEPLACE where his show would work, as opposed to the simple solution -- just firing him.

(15,435 posts)anyone saying "up next, then a given lead in subject" and another ad. The host had already said the subject was going to be covered at the beginning of the show, but then it was "up next" AD another "up next" AD then host comes back and you hear about the subject!
I've been timing the ads and sometimes at a hard break it's 4 minutes PLUS! Each show might have 30 minutes that covers subjects, if that.

(47,803 posts)My guess is that every one of their hosts (and many regulat guests) who are assotiated as being too "Left" will be eitehr be given "roving correspondent" jobs to fill oput their contracts, or will just be shown the door.

(75,480 posts)The handwriting is on the wall. Maybe there is still hope for Rachel, clever, smart fox that she is. She might outmaneuver them and keep her job. I don't have much hope for Chris Hayes or Lawrence O'Donnell.

(15,435 posts)until anyway, but did watch Al Jazerra AND FSTV. Between the two, and sometimes LINK there's e ought to listen to. I thought I would sneak a peek, but NOPE didn't do it! Also, even though C-Span irritates me at times with certain guests they're available too. Also PBS still has some good shows to watch even though they've sold out.
Yeah, sorry about the "few" left that are sort of worth listening to, mostly I'm sick of how MSNBC has found a way to rid themselves of what they must consider Riff-Raff. Keith Olbermann, Martin Bashir, Cenk Uger and others yet keep idiot like Joey Scar & The Toad! Oh and Tweety too! And so it goes!

I too cannot trust those "progs" who Stayed at MSNBC...I'm done with all MSM....
My next step is to find a good entertainment package/source...and I'm cutting the cord on cable all together and when I do...I will cite Comcasts Ed Shultz Boot from MSM as the final straw.
