(15,031 posts)3. Not proved in a court of law yet, and I'm certain Ty Inc. would prefer to NOT underwrite. . .
Palmer's defense through having to pay a defamation claim.

(62,444 posts)6. It's admitted by Palmer
His own statement admits killing the lion.
Whether he was criminally liable in any way is an open question.
But the killing part is not.
And, defamation would, at this point, be a problematic claim.
The CBS news graphic for his picture says "LION KILLER".
That fact is not in dispute. Aside from which, his reputation has already been long trashed by now. There is no quantum of further damage to be done.

(62,444 posts)2. PR lol..."Beanie Babies creator Ty Warner's sentence is upheld"
Having just won the DoJ's appeal of his sentence, he grabbed onto this one right quick.
-----
Judge Joel Martin Flaum said he decided to write separately because of his "considerable unease'' with the outcome of the appeal. Specifically, the judge said he was concerned about "the signal that it may send about how the criminal justice system treats wealthy tax evaders."
The judge wrote that Warner's commendable charitable spirit does not obviate the appropriateness of some period of incarceration. "He purposely sought to deprive the federal government of millions of dollars of tax revenue simply to amass more of his enormous wealth.''
