UPDATE: There is hope that Jericho is still alive

Last edited Sat Aug 1, 2015, 04:16 PM - Edit history (1)

Once again, because the vile actions of humans, Cecil's cubs are once again at risk.

As much as I am against the death penalty, I would favor having the death penatly for poachers and trophy hunters.

Cecil the lion's brother Jericho has been shot dead in a park in Zimbabwe.
The animal was protecting his lion cubs after he was shot dead by Minnesota dentist, Walter Palmer earlier this month, sparking outrage around the world.
Johnny Rodrigues, Chairman for Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force, said in a statement: 'It is with great sadness and regret that we report that Jericho was shot dead at 4pm this afternoon.
'We have no further details but will advise as soon as we know more.'

UPDATE: Oh please oh please let Jericho be alive.

Reuters has posted the following story:

http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/08/01/us-zimbabwe-wildlife-lion-jericho-idUSKCN0Q63CQ20150801

The brother of Cecil, the lion killed in Zimbabwe by an American hunter last month, is not dead, a researcher monitoring the pride told Reuters, contradicting media reports that Jericho had been killed.

"He looks alive and well to me as far as I can tell," said Brent Stapelkamp, field researcher for the Hwange Lion Research Project which is monitoring the lion with a GPS tag.

A group called the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force posted on its Facebook page that Jericho had been killed at 4 p.m. on Saturday, a report picked up by some Western news media that was rapidly spread on Twitter.

tapelkamp said readings from Jericho's GPS tag indicated he was moving around as usual and appeared to be with a female.

"When I heard that report, I had a look on the computer and his movements look regular. He sent a GPS point from his collar from 8:06 p.m. (02:06 p.m. EDT). Everything looks fine," Stapelkamp told Reuters.

Earlier on Saturday, Zimbabwe's parks authority imposed an indefinite ban on big game hunting outside the national park from which Cecil was lured before being killed on July 1.

A source at the parks agency told Reuters a second lion had been killed illegally by a foreign hunter in Zimbabwe on July 3. That has not been confirmed by officials.

I hope that there will be som much public outrage around the world that it will result in the end of trophy hunting and poaching will be a capital crime with poachers shot on sight.

I am so devestated about the bleak future for Cecil's cubs. I wish that they could be rescued before it is too late for them too.

They should be captured, taken to court, given a fair trial, and be executed by firing squad (or, in nations with majority Islamic populations, by public beheading) at 8 p.m. in an event broadcast on every television station in Africa. And then they need to make posters and billboards with the picture of the dead poacher, with the caption "If you illegally kill African wildlife, this will be done to you."

If they're just "shot on sight," their friends can believe they were just killed by a crocodile or something.

Animals. They are in their own land in their own habitats. What in the complete fucking hell. It's like showing up to someone's house and killing them to hang their head on a wall.

We already do that with birds. Thinking of the Texas hunting incident with Dick Cheney when he shot the guy in the face. The birds were caged and then released so the "hunters" could shoot them as they flew away.
