Woke up smoked-in by Wolverine fire on Lk. Chelan. The end to my fabulous summer so far is in sight! No outdoors play for me.

it's from so far out that it really does look as the entire west and all of Alaska is on fire. Zoom in and you get a more accurate picture.

I live in NM, didn't think we had even the two that are shown. They are pretty much completely under control right now. We've been having a lot of rain lately, which is immediate good news for fires, in that things aren't as dry and flammable. The bad news is that things are growing like crazy which will mean a lot more fuel if it dries out later on. Or next year.

I don't see why they couldn't have made them scale down as you zoom out. Still, it's a pretty significant number of fires, particularly in Alaska.

It's about 30-40 miles from where I am.

We've had several other smaller fires around here in the past week, too.

Sonoma County, California.

most counties had three or four. I kept the things I needed to throw in the car at a moment's notice if one of the fires that was closest to us came nearer and we needed to evacuate. Fortunately, that did not become necessary and I thank the fire fighters who came from all over the country, including Alaska, to fight the fires.

It looks like it's time for the favor to be returned.
