(23,156 posts)or fired a gun, so it wouldn't be a very good idea for me to have one.
I'd have to rely on pulling my "I'm old enough to be your grandmother" routine. Which works for getting out of traffic tickets. I've never been mugged, so don't know how well it would work there.

(23,156 posts)You'uns, Y'all, youse guys. Non specific other.
Or I could reword it more formally: As it happens, I have never owned a gun. Nor fired one. I simply rely on my gray hair and obvious age to pull the "I'm as old as your grandmother" card to get out of traffic tickets.
Definitely not a boxer.

lives when some paranoid fool is not carrying a gun to go th Chuck E Cheese. Most street robbers really aren't out to kill you, so leave your guns at home. Your gunz make you feel tougher, but that won't do anyone any good in a situation like the video.

(10,164 posts)...I couldn't know that's all they wanted. Enough such crimes end in serious harm to the victim that I feel completely justified in using (potentially) lethal force to defend myself. It's far from a remote possibility.

(54,770 posts)Property is not a reason to kill, well for most people.
Lizzie Poppet
(10,164 posts)Doesn't seem like it...
But I'll repeat myself this once: it's impossible to know that a mugger intends only to take your property. Even if that is their initial intent, such crimes result in violence with sufficient frequency to make it unreasonable to simply assume that theft will be the only outcome. This is particularly true when the victim is a woman.
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)when you buy an new gun and tuck one in your pants to go to Chuck E Cheese or something?

(10,164 posts)If you wish to accept that probability, fine. I'm not.
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)of ways to reduce the very small risk even further, and carrying a gun ain't one of them. Maybe someday you'll admit the truth of why you strap a gun on to walk down the street.

(10,164 posts)You're spectacularly under-qualified, and you just make a fool of yourself.
You also are, apparently, completely ignorant of the statistical reality of female crime victimization. Imagine my surprise...

(24,853 posts)Awww... all they want is your wallet. Go ahead and give it to them and no one gets hurt. See how easy life is when you don't question their motives or resist them?
You know what? Come take my wallet. I dare ya, and no, I don't carry a gun. I'm not a boxer, but we're going to wrestle and you're not going to walk away until you do it in cuffs.
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)to shoot people over property. I may be mistaken, but seems like you were OK with shooting some fleeing in the back.
Sorry, I don't support gun toting, or shooting folks over property. If that makes you sick, too bad.

(54,770 posts)Nor, would it be more likely the gun toter's kid might shoot himself with the gun, the toter's spouse might take one center mass, a mugger would take toter's gun and shoot them, etc.

(18,998 posts)And boxers know how to hit them in the jaw in the right place to rattle the brain and knock them out.
And they presented their jaw to him as a perfect target.

That is why the managers and corner men are always hollering at their boxer to "Keep your chin down!!!!
zeemike
(18,998 posts)Especially the guy that threw that punch, his chin was right out there in perfect position.
And they were much bigger than him...no doubt thought they could intimidate him.

(12,904 posts)A couple years ago, hubs and I pulled up to a red light, and saw two kids just about like those in this video run up at an old guy who was walking down the street. Hubs puts on signal to turn right to try to scare the kids off, and next thing we know, the old guy has both those kids on the ground and is just wailing on them. Kids run off.
We pull up, hubs laughingly asks old guy if he needs help. Old guy got a huge smile on his mug, and says "Nah, I think I'm okay, they probably won't bother me anymore." Hubs says..."Guess not".
It was great.

(70 posts)Muggers and stickup men are the most dangerous common criminals.
They are desperate enough to rob their victims face to face, knowing that the victims will see them, and can ID them.
Their behaviour is unpredictable at best, and violent at worst.
