Pardon me if this is in the wrong place, but it is not about the Democratic Primary, it's about the GOP.
I wrote a story a couple of years back, a rip of "The Producers" about a pair of con men who try to get rich by running a phony campaign. Citizens United allows unlimited donations to campaigns. What if someone who did not plan to get elected made promises to everyone, took their money, squirreled it away somewhere, did fancy bookkeeping to make it look as if it was spent on the campaign, but instead kept the money? You could promise the prison industry to keep weed illegal while taking money from the medical marijuana group to do the opposite. You could accept all kinds of money and tell the donors "I support your cause but I will have to run on a different platform to get elected." As long as you did not get elected, you would never have to keep any of the promises---and, with a little creative accounting, all that money would be yours for your "next political run".
Sounded far fetched when I wrote it. But I have to wonder, is Trump in it for the money? Or for his ego? Or for both? If he's in it for the money, then a third party splitter campaign is not so far fetched as it sounds. That's the way to make real money---without ever having to deliver on any campaign promise.
Here's a link to my fiction story, "God/head":
