Narcissists have NO capability of seeing anything from any other perspective than the one that allows them to rest easy at night and they can justify ANY nefarious act.

Trust me, he didn't care how they lured a lion close enough to shoot as long as he got its head for one of his walls.

It was a dirty kill, Cecil suffered for 40 hours before they chased him down and finished him off. That man has a lot to be deeply ashamed of.

He's a Republican, so he is incapable of any shame. We'll have to hope that losing his practice makes him poor enough that canned hunts of endangered animals are a thing of the past.

Trophy hunting was vile in Teddy Roosevelt's day and it's gotten even worse. At least Roosevelt was hunting and exposing himself to danger. Now they bait semi tame animals into convenient spots to be shot by these goons.

(Do note that I am not anti hunter, people around here eat what they kill unless they're from out of state and only want a head or a skin)

Cecil the lion: Two men due in Zimbabwe court over 'illegal' hunt but Walter Palmer not charged

Two men are due to appear in court in Zimbabwe over the killing of Cecil the lion, while the American dentist who paid to shoot him with a bow and arrow continues to deny any wrongdoing.

Walter Palmer, from Minneapolis, is believed to have returned to the US after the hunt earlier this month where he allegedly paid about $50,000 (£32,000) to kill the famous lion.

A local charity claims Cecil took 40 hours to die after being shot by an arrow and was skinned and beheaded, with the head taken as a trophy for Dr Palmer.

Get this. If he had any young cubs they are all dead now. When a new pride leader asserts himself he will kill all of cecil's offspring that are not adult. He will them mate with the pride and produce his own. That is what is going to happen if Cecil's babies aren't grown enough to be left out of this instinct. Fuck hunters. Isn't climate change killing animals fast enough?

went through his mind, for he had one to be sure, other than the pain as he suffered in agony?

This dentist also had to pay a settlement for sexual harrassment and was very big on entertaining with blood SPORT, not what he needed to eat.

I remember a scene from a movie, may be all fictional, but when some amerindians took down a deer, they begged his pardon as they did so.

This man is a poster for what will destroy all of us and led me to the conclusion - even though I was close - that the human race is not worthy to live on his planet anymore. As some amerindians and others have said - they will kill everything alive, until they kill themselves as well.

There is still time to reverse this course, but I don't see it happening. I see what Trump did in Scotland. I've seen what clear cutting does. I know what the mining companies are doing around the world. And what devastation to people, animals and all vegetation is done while forsest are destroyed in a wasteful matter to mine one product, like palm oil or copper or coal.

As the Pope said, greed is now destroying the ability of the planet to sustain life. The tribes know this. They have warned us. But people did not listen.

A reading of the writings of Derrick Jensen is chilling. or those of Jared Diamond even if disputed. And still we have the same mentality in Congress, with a Senator tossing a snowball. And before that another one apologizing to BP for the Gulf oil explosion, having unleashed the pressure that held down the oil into an almost volcanic eruption.

I felt at that time, Mother Earth said, 'You want the oil that bad? Here it is. All of it. Drink this cup you sought to have. It will kill you all, but I grant your wish.'

I saw about rescuers who had gone out into the Gulf to save some of the wildlife. Men who had plied those waters for decades. Some of them, after coming back and seeing the animals dying, came back and committed suicide.

Mankind is committing suicide.

Should he be homeless? Jailed? For how long? 10 years? 20? Life?

Let's say he does jail time. The maximum penalty for killing the national symbol of this country - the Bald Eagle - is $250,000 for a felony conviction and 2 years in jail.

I just sincerely want to know what it is you think will happen to him after all of the worse happens? Should he be a food stamp recipient? Welfare? Should he be forced to live in Section 8 housing?

I know emotions run high on things like this, but what happens to the guy later on?

If your answer is "I don't give a shit"...well....

If you have an opinion to one stage of this retribution, are you not able to consider further?

Here's the funny thing about DU;

There have been scores, hundreds, even, of threads over the years decrying the situation for poor people in this country as well as the homeless. What should we do about them, how we can solve their plight.

So this douchenozzle kills a Lion and a whole lot of Du'ers want to add him to the ranks of a group so very often shown pity for!

Somewhere along the line here there is some sort of disconnect, that's all.

Here's what I think should happen to him;

Pay a hefty fine - high 6 figures at least that will pretty much empty his retirement account (or whatever). That way he'll have to start over, so to speak and he won't have the money to go back to Africa any time soon. The entirety of the fine should go to the preserve where Cecil lived and be earmarked for the preservation of the rest of the Lions that still live there. Appropriate jail time, whatever that is, to be determined in a court of law.

Then, after he has paid his due to society and made the appropriate amends. LEAVE HIM THE FUCK ALONE.

His practice is likely ruined. He probably won't be able to keep his office open. Which also means the rest of the staff he employs will lose their jobs.

I don't feel sorry for him. What I find interesting is the membership of this board and their reaction to stories like this.

He had a hell of a lot more chances than most people to be a better person, and simply threw them away.

Maybe if he's in poverty, he'll quit being a conservative ass, and start agitating for useful things like a higher minimum wage, since it would actually help him at that point.

By Peta Thornycroft, Johannesburg

6:28PM BST 17 Apr 2015

A young bull elephant killed professional hunter Ian Gibson early on Wednesday as he tracked a lion for an American client in a rugged part of north-east Zimbabwe.

Mr Gibson, 55, one of Zimbabwe's best known big game hunters, died scouting for prey in the Zambezi Valley after a young bull elephant charged, then knelt on him and crushed him to death.

"We don't yet know the full details of how 'Gibbo' as we called him, died, as the American client and the trackers are still too traumatised to give us full details," said Paul Smith, managing director of Chifuti Safaris' which employed Mr Gibson for the hunt.

And what would be wrong with that?

Headline: Jerk is financially ruined, then changes his ways to start making the world a better place!

Of course he SHOULD be lauded if that were the case.

Yes, he should be ruined for his asshole-ery. After that though, he has the same opportunities everyone else in that shitty boat has--more, if you count his 1%-er contacts, professional credentialling, etc.--to become a productive part of society. What he does after he is ruined is up to him, not us.

He could do something awesome--perhaps providing free dental work to homeless people. That would be great.
He could go back to asshole-ery--start a new dental practice somewhere obscure and make enough money to go back on Safari.

Who knows? That's not up to DU, last time I checked. What should happen after his ruination? That's up to him. Just like it's up to every other person ruined by the consequences of shitty things they've done or shitty things that have happened to them. How many drug war casualties have been ruined? They're in (likely) a worse boat after their ruination than this dentist would be. So let's leave him in the same boat as them.

This has not quieted his critics, who took to social media with attacks, including condemnation of his dental practice on Twitter, Facebook and Yelp.

An online petition asking the American Dental Assn. to suspend Palmer had more than 1,400 signatures by Tuesday afternoon, and a petition demanding justice for Cecil had more than 166,000 signatures by late Tuesday.

Palmer’s hunting practices have come under scrutiny in the past. In 2008, he pleaded guilty to one count of making material false statements in relation to a poaching case in Wisconsin. He was sentenced to one year probation, a $2,938 fine and was forced to forfeit the black bear remains to the government.

I see we agree that the man (and other trophy hunters) are bad people, but with the rapidly disappearing number of African lions and elephants I don’t think we (meaning the world) can spare them any feelings. If these people have no money left to pay for their disgusting “hobby” then we’ve made a positive impact for the sake of these beautiful creatures who DO deserve our compassion.

The douchenozzle has already been found guilty of lying about shooting some other innocent and been fined a piddly little amount of money. Did he learn a lesson? Is he remorseful? No. So he needs to lose everything.

Arguing whether or not he is a coward is irrelevant. What he did was reprehensible. While it looks cool to say you killed a big lion, what really happens is the lions are used to people and don't run away. So you can drive fairly close and shoot them as they lay in the sun. Almost as bad as killing animals from helicopters.
