A mural in Ottowa, Canada painted in honor of Sandra Bland was found defaced with the slogan "All Lives Matter" on Tuesday, according to CBC News.
The mural was commissioned by the Black Lives Matter movement in honor of Bland, a black woman who was arrested for assault in Texas on July 10th after failing to signal, then found dead of an apparent suicide three days later.
The mural of Bland had a white mustache drawn on it, with the words, "All Lives Matter" scrawled across the mural in white paint.
The mural was created Monday on a common wall that is sanctioned for public art in Ottawa.

(14,576 posts)My wife and I saw the video of those trucks with confederate flags pulling up to that little girl's birthday party and yelling the n word. Stuff like this makes me want to puke.
This mural should never have been defaced, and that little girl should never have to carry those ugly memories.
What is wrong with us?

(16,685 posts)...a reminder that we have to respect ALL lives. It has nothing to do with minimizing disproportionate amounts of violence against blacks and institutional racism...oh no...

(57,936 posts)The issue is: Black Lives Matter.
It's Black lives that are being treated as if they don't matter all too often.
All the rest of us are pretty much fine.
It's Black Lives Matter because Black lives haven't been treated like they matter.
I think that is what is confusing to people. They don't understand that it's whether Black Lives Matter that is in question.
Defacing commissioned art?
Pretty ugly statement in and of itself. Who would do such a thing?
I like the original painting. I like wall murals very much.
