Zimbabwe officials are seeking to arrest Cecil the lion killing dentist, Walter Palmer, after the Minnesotan lured and then poached the nation’s beloved big cat from its African sanctuary earlier in July.

This is the second known felony assault and trespass against protected wildlife that Dr. Palmer has perpetrated: In 2008 he pleaded guilty to luring and killing a black bear, then planting its carcass elsewhere in order to feign it was a legitimate kill.

That murdered animal wasn’t wearing a GPS tracking collar, however, which is not the case with Cecil the lion, who was part of a research study and whose family is in great danger now without his presence in the pride.

Palmer, 55, has professed to not “knowing” that targeting the iconic creature with freshly-slaughtered bait so it would leave its heavily-protected territory and, therefore, be easier to kill, was wrong.

But this excuse neither matters nor rings true -- in law or in fact -- so hopefully the deviant dentist will finally do jail time for a pattern of animal abuse and cruelty.

Guilty plea in Wisconsin

The incident is not Palmer’s first brush with authorities.

In 2008, he pleaded guilty in federal court in Wisconsin to misleading a federal agent in connection with the hunting of a black bear. Two years earlier, Palmer killed a bear near Phillips, in Price County. That location was 40 miles outside of the zone where he held a permit to hunt bear. Palmer and others transported the bear carcass to a registration station inside the allowed hunting zone, according to court documents, and at the station, he falsely certified that the bear had been killed in the legal zone.

Facing a maximum penalty of five years in prison, Palmer was sentenced to one year’s probation and fined nearly $3,000.

In the spring of 2003, Palmer also was convicted in Otter Tail County in western Minnesota and paid a small fine for fishing without a license, a misdemeanor.

And in 2009, Palmer agreed to a settlement with the Minnesota Board of Dentistry over allegations that he sexually harassed a receptionist. She alleged that Palmer made comments about her breasts, buttocks and genitalia.

Without admitting guilt, Palmer settled and paid $127,500 to the woman, who also was his patient. The settlement included references to his bear-hunting conviction and “substandard record keeping.”


He needs to be sent on a one way trip to Zimbabwe while be driven out of buisness. I hope people boycott his practice.

3. This guy has completely blown his entire future

Now that his past run in with authorities for poaching a bear, AND being caught up in a sexual harassment scandal that cost him plenty, both financially and professionally, his office is closed and shuttered - damn. So his incredibly heinous "hobby" has likely cost him his profession and ruined not just his life, but also any family that he has, AND his employees.

Was it worth it??

one article I read. This asshole is way over the line, and given his track record he has some real issues going on in his head. I hope they are able to arrest him and he serves time. He's gotten off way too easy before.
