House conservative seeks John Boehner's ouster

Most Republicans, however, say it will be tough to round up the votes to overthrow the speaker.

Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) has filed a motion to try to force Speaker John Boehner from his leadership post.
The action, called a motion to vacate the chair, has never been successfully used to depose a speaker. And most Republicans say Meadows would have a tough time finding the requisite votes to overthrow Boehner.

Still, it represents a new level of opposition to the Ohio Republican’s speakership from the conservative wing.

It was my understanding that it was impossible to remove a speaker after he was elected which is why Boehner was only really vulnerable at the start of a new congress. Can a speaker be removed?
