As a result, Republicans captured almost two-thirds of the state assembly seats despite the fact that Democrats actually won a majority of the votes.

(31,828 posts)But second - what will come of this?
I'm in NJ and I've watched Christie get away with shit left and right. Will this be THE case that sticks? I hope so - and I hope so for the people of Wisconsin who have gotten the shaft from this guy.

(3,732 posts)I believe this feeling fuels many of the political attitudes, views, and opinions of the Millennial generation. The response to perceived lack of democratic process and effectiveness is often less than democratic itself. Sometimes I worry about a new fascist movement gathering from all sides - simply as a cry to DO SOMETHING!
Much of the problem stems from ongoing ripples of Citizens United. Once money has bought the political process, the lack of public influence becomes blatant. Our ostensible representatives lose all respect for public input and barely tolerate the public presence with a yawn. They do whatever they want and act with impunity.
What will change this situation? Something has to change soon if we are going to remain a democracy

(3,431 posts)I see no serious purpose in this, because
the WI supreme court has already decided
to protect Walker & Friends.

(4,280 posts)this is a way to get it out, so others can see it and talk about it. Maybe, just maybe, it'll make the news on MSM. I hope Ed, or Rachel, or Lawrence talks about this tonight.

(8,917 posts)the case was in the State Courts or the Federal Courts.
If state court, they your assumption may be correct.
If federal court, anything can happen.
Why hasn't the DOJ done anything about this? Do they have a any kind of jurisdiction?
How about the Federal Elections Commission?
Just asking.

(15,435 posts)I as a poll watcher several times and each time "stuff" happened. When anyone questions anything the answers are vague or nonexistent. Even The Democratic Party here is much to the right of me and I stopped participating. Things could have gotten better since I stopped, but I hit my head against the wall too many times. It's very difficult living in this very RED County, ranked either 1, 2 or 3 in per capita income since I moved here. And as always my caveat, I'm not included in that income bracket by any stretch.
Christine Jennings just became the head of the local Democratic Party. She ran against in that famous election against Vern Buchanan which IMO and in many, many others was nothing short of a farce, but she ended up losing. However, she was once an "R" who actually was able to become the Democratic candidate over a long time more Progressive Democrat. Still, she has stuck with the local Party, but it's not an easy place to be a Democrat here. This county also elected Katherine "Cruella" Harris as our Congressional Rep., and IT WAS ALL ABOUT HER! Not sure what she's doing now, but don't really care. She was an absolute publicity seeker, posting all kinds of pictures of herself that one might call a certain type of modeling! Very weird.
I don't post like I once did, but from time to time come back to check things outs. DU has changed SOOOOO much over the years, but I remain a Liberal, and I SUPPORT BERNIE with a passion!
I already know what our very own Democratic Party will do to keep him down, but to me I MUST take a stand! Even now, so called liberals are coming out of the woodwork to "talk up Hillary" regardless of what "we the people" want. The time will come, I do believe this that it's all going to go POP! This country can't call itself a Democracy much longer if we don't reverse our course! I've been waiting much too long!

(9,070 posts)we caused a fuss, reported it to the ES, demanded that it be impounded, and tried to watch it.
We were escorted out of the area by officers.
Believe me, I know that some of these elections are rigged. I don't think Scott won.
I clearly remember the Jennings/Buchanan. An analysis of the undervotes in an article by the American Statistical Association in the Chance journal concluded that Jennings won.
I'm sure it happens all over the country now.

(15,435 posts)some ballots that had gone missing and other ballots, we were told we had to stand behind a roped off line. They let us "glimpse" said ballots, it was basically a JOKE! A farce really because even after that Jennings was asking for more $$ to hire even more lawyers to help with finding out about the undervotes. I think we were using ESS&S machines, but I do agree that the MACHINES can easily be hacked! I think it's actually been proven because a guy here in FL blew the whistle a long time ago. I can't remember his name but he did testify in D.C. as I recall vaguely.
So much for this Great Democracy!! Each year I find myself getting more and more cynical. And, there's NO WAY Rick Scott won without cheating. I knew Repukes who told me they would not vote for him. This from people I thought would Never NOT vote for him! They told me personally which was very interesting because they know how involved I've been with politics for so many years. Given this area, this is saying a lot about this very Red County!
