Thai Airways suspends unprofitable US flights, cuts 1,401 jobs

Thailand’s beleaguered national airline will suspend flights to the U.S. as part of efforts to end years of losses.

Thai Airways President Jarumporn Chotikasathein says the airline is suspending the unprofitable four roundtrip flights per week from Bangkok to Los Angeles, as well as to Rome. Flights on profitable routes to London and Franfurt will be doubled.

Jarumporn said Monday that the flight schedule changes and other measures were being introduced to reduce the airline’s losses.

Reuters reported that the airline also plans to cut 1,401 jobs through voluntary retirement this year in a bid to stem losses.
