Satire, but not far off how many on the Blairite the Labour party are reacting to veteran left winger Jeremy Corbyn's campaign for leadership of the UK Labour party

No one can quite fathom Jeremys appeal, said a Labour insider.
For some reason people are enjoying hear someone speak with conviction on their own beliefs rather than toss off the usual centrist, benefit-hating, corporate-loving, vote-for-me-and-youll-get-a-bigger-bag-of-crisps rhetoric that theyve been force-fed since the height of Thatcher-ism.
Other candidates for the Labour leadership, rocked by the notion that they might actually have to put together a more coherent argument than Mr Cameron is a nasty man, are scrabbling to find a way to defeat Mr Corbyn.

Do any US DUer's see similarities between Jeremy Corbyn and Bernie Sanders?

Will have to do some reading up Mr. Corbyn, or is he referred to as Jeremy?

(14,738 posts)Doesn't have any nicknames, and isn't known by his first name like Boris Johnson. Also doesn't help that there is another more famous Jeremy C in this country in the form of Jeremy Clarkson.
Mind you, it's difficult to think of a more stereotypical leftie than Jeremy Corbyn.

(2,560 posts)On The Daily Show a month or two ago, Nicola Sturgeon attributed the SNP's success to having policies very similar to those of Labour 10 or 20 years ago.
Maybe such an approach will strike a chord with other in the Labour party.

(14,738 posts)Even nominally left wing papers like the Observer have been very shrill in their anti-Cornyn stuff. (Their Blairite Westminster bubble columnist Andrew Rawnsley being a target for the Newsthump piece)
Trouble is, the 3 mainstream candidates are actually quite poor. And the media darling, ultra-Blairite Liz Kendall is languishing in a poor 4th, having completely failed to grasp what being leader of the opposition actually entails.
