his Kenyan past."

The only Kenyan past the President has is as a visitor. Perhaps the voice over meant to refer to the President's paternal Kenyan roots?

Was this an unintentional poor choice of words or an intentional subtle birther reference,

Either way, it was bad news, literally and figuratively.

ETA: I should have specified: This was not the anchor speaking live, but a video prepared in advance of the broadcast. Whether CBS prepared it, we'll probably never know. However, it probably had to pass through a process involving more than one person before hitting the airwaves.

The OP should have specified, this was a video aired during the broadcast, not the anchor speaking live. I will edit.

Used it as a springboard to advance better relations with Africa. He could've done it in SA as well, he had the overwhelming political capital. Instead there was only the festering "birther" meme that went on and on, a meme that befits nothing above the level of Donald Trump and Pat Buchanan.

I think the only reason it does not do so as much now is that he cannot run again and the 2016 primary is underway, which gives the Republicans, if not bigger fish to fry, then at least more timely fish.

I always give them the benefit of absolutely no doubt: They're all idiots and corporate stooges. Some are simply less offensive than others.

Once you accept that reality, you can appreciate that The Daily Show isn't so much satire as simple observation.

The last time I watched that crap, ABC was playing "hostage music" every night and rolling up some idiotic daily score to keep the interest fresh. And that was over 36 years ago. Try it. Your life can only get better when your mind is not stultified by senseless pollution.
