After Getting Dumped By TLC, The Duggars Are Desperate For Cash And Want Back On TV
The Duggars have lost a lot of money after getting dropped by TLC, and they are in desperate need of cash, so cue the frivolous lawsuits.

I can see where 19 kids and legal fees could dry up even a seven-figure coffer if cash isn't flowing in -- and we don't know how much of that $500K is IN cash.

(60,536 posts)a TV personality; owned property too.
When TLC cameras first met the Duggar family for 2004s 14 Kids and Pregnant Again special, Arkansas parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar were already doing quite well for themselves.
Since then, thanks to an additional boost from TLC, the Duggars net worth has grown to an estimated $3.5 million. Although we cant all have lucrative reality TV contracts, most of us can learn a few things from the Duggars money philosophy
After Jim Bob and Michelle married in 1984, he worked for various stints as an insurance salesman and car salesman. In 1990, after six years of using credit and gathering some debt, Jim Bob and Michelle attended a seminar on Jim Sammons Finding Financial Freedom program. (The seminar is endorsed by their religious organization.) The Duggars then vowed to get out of debt by not purchasing anything they didnt have cash to cover at the time.
Ive learned self control and also a lot about construction, Jim Bob said in a 2001 interview for Arkansas Democrat Gazette.
After saving enough to cover general expenses, they made some smart investments in local real estate and cell phone towers. In 2001, Jim Bob explained they were financially secure enough that he didnt have to work full-time. He instead served in the Arkansas House of Representatives between 1999 and 2002, before spending his own $250,000 on a failed senate campaign. (The Arkansas House of Reprsentatives job now pays approximately $15,000; Jim Bob likely earned less during his terms.)
The Duggars money philosophy also requires a lot of patience: Using an $82,000 construction kit, they began building a 7,000-square-foot home in 2000. They didnt complete the project until 2006, at which point they were finally able to move the family of 18 out of their old 2,000-square-foot home.
Since TLC came into the picture, the Duggars have also gotten many of the usual non-income perks that go along with reality TV gigs: Theyve traveled around the world, received help when furnishing that large home and likely got some financial aid when hosting Jill Duggars recent mega-wedding. Still, they all appear to be modest spenders who aim to buy cheap and save the rest.

Your net worth is calculated by SUBTRACTING your liabilities from your assets -- that is, it's the DIFFERENCE between what you have and what you owe.
It sounds like the Duggars are starting to run out of cash on hand. With the TLC income gone, more money is going out than coming in, so they may have to resort to raising cash by selling off their non-monetary assets (good luck getting what THEY think they're worth).

(60,536 posts)his fellow fundies and fans will set up a GoFundMe page for the "oppressed Duggars." If the fundies and righties are willing to fund bakers for discriminating on wedding cakes, they must be more than willing to do the same for Jim Bob and clan. No?

even many of the fundies don't have much already
Bad enough that Fundies vote against their own best interest...for the rich to get richer. But I wouldn't be surprised if they gathered their spare change and donated it to people who have been making millions.

Still, if that family starts to feel the pinch and yells loud enough about it, it's another great lesson in why contraception is such a good idea for the rest of us.

(44,577 posts)...(T)he Duggar family...added a support button to their YouTube channel so they could produce fresh new content. The plea reportedly said every contribution is helpful, big or small. Fan support was minimal and the scathing comments of those who are tired of these people being famous for nothing bordered on an angry mob...By (July 30)...(t)here is no sign of a support button on any of the Duggar pages or YouTube channels...
One report says theyve had to fight a home foreclosure...Jill and her husband...were forced to beg for cash to travel to South America for mission work, though they wouldnt disclose the actual location...If they could manage to get benefits for all of the children and grandchildren...they would be staring down the barrel of $4K a month in food alone...
Which dovetails into my theory that they're becoming so cash poor they can't make up the difference by selling off their assets.

(N)ow...the Duggars...have discovered that in order to make money they either have to get real jobs or swindle the remaining supporters they have left. They apparently chose the latter. Adding content to YouTube is free...
The cost of raising a child to adulthood in the United States is $245,000 and counting. Multiplied by 19 means that it will cost Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar over $4 million...Surely, the Duggars were smart enough to save their money over the years, and they must have a fat piggy bank to draw from...(I)ts been reported that the Duggars are actually thousands of dollars in debt, face multiple lawsuits, and dont actually practice what they preach...
Good question -- After ten seasons on TLC, they should have long since salted away the $4M they'd need for their kids and still have more than enough left over for tithing and taxes, never mind their other alleged income streams...

(39,215 posts)have - lose of jobs, sickness, divorce, etc. This couple wanted us to believe that we could ignore common sense and God would step in and fix it when we did. They also are the same kind of people who think we do not need a safety net.
But having said that - it will not be God that steps in if they really go broke - it will be government. Bigots used to insist that welfare mothers had children (a lot of them) so they could be eligible for welfare. This family is actually going to be able to do that. With 19 children and probably 17 still in the home they will go to college on grants. They will be eligible for many kinds of assistance and be able to keep their huge home while doing it.
Maybe they can do a reality show on how to live on welfare. It sure would be more relevant.
