Just got back from some student presentations

These were high school and middle school students who were in a summer camp program voluntarily doing research, writing and presentations on social issues affecting young people. There were only 4 presentations (4 groups of 3 - all took turns speaking). My son was the only public high school student signed up. The rest were from area private and charter schools. Presentation subjects ranged from child homelessness (Delaware is 36th, right below New York), food wastelands and child obesity, invisible children (Kony), and bullying, and what can be done about these things. They chose their own subjects, professors from the university were only there to help with the writing/presentation styles.

It was a good experience, and refreshing to hear what the younger generation is thinking about. I was a bit surprised with the Kony entry since I got the impression it was supposed to concentrate on social issues effecting US youth, but it was well done and opened up a dialog with the students.

I think I got a glimpse of some well-spoken and vibrant future community leaders today!
