I'm an old CA resident, so I know coyotes. I was driving near my home to the supermarket, and had just driven over a railroad overpass. There it was. A very healthy adult coyote, well-Fed and good-sized, crossed the four lane road at an easy trot, no more than 20 feet in front of my car.
Really, it was just three blocks from my house. I let my neighbors know so they'd keep their critters indoors. Plenty of squirrels and rabbits around, though.
Handsome canine, it was.

(22,156 posts)have rarely seen them in the 8 years we have been back. Saw/heard them every day when we lived in California 😊. It's cool that you've seen one in St. Paul. I lived in Eagan back on the mid 80's. Never saw a coyote there.

(17,047 posts)My place backs up to a greenbelt so we tend to see alot of them, especially when it's hot and dry. My dogs are indoor pets but when the coyotes are seen we start taking them out at night with a leash to do the duty. Not taking any chances. Trash day tends to bring them out as well.
Just last week there were three just right out my fence line. We live in the city too!

(39,961 posts)at 6am crossing the road. I still don't know what in the hell it was. We all know I encounter everything in the world, but it might have been a bear.
I love spotting critters.

Last night I saw a flock of turkey vultures in South St Paul along the river. An awesome sight to behold.

(2,188 posts)You guys don't know how to say raccoon either. You just drop the "rac" entirely and call those creatures coons.
