ABQ mayor to meet with opponents of Confederate flag in Old Town (NM)

Mayor Richard Berry said Monday that he will meet with community leaders who want to remove a Confederate flag and plaques displayed in Old Town as part of a discussion over how to mark our history in an appropriate manner.
Berrys comments come after two state lawmakers, a city councilor and others criticized the presence of Confederate tributes on Albuquerques historic Old Town plaza, including plaques and replica cannons.
In a written statement to the Journal, Berry said he will launch a community discussion with an array of voices, including advisers from the NAACP.
Although the plaques and the flag were intended to mark history, the mayor said, any markers that can be viewed as celebrating racism are not acceptable ...
