From my brother's perspective, why use an authentic factory part when you can make yourself or have fabricated a far superior part for less than a tenth, sometimes even a hundredth the cost of the authentic "factory" part.
Our society seems to be rapidly accelerating toward an oppressive world where even simple modifications of equipment we supposedly own will be illegal.
I can easily imagine a dystopia where this YouTube guy gets sued out of business because one of his decals didn't quite match the Ferrari original, therefore "causing" some drunken Hollywood star to run over a beloved grandma and completely ruin the buzz for a blockbuster movie.
I'm not nearly the artisan my brother is; if I can make do with a bit of wire, a blob of JB Weld, and some crap I found in my junk box, I consider that a very fine day. Whatever I own I will consider my own to do with as I please.
Fortunately for any future collector sorts, I don't want any collectible type crap in my life, and I give it away to someone who cares, as quickly as possible, unsullied by my grubby hands.
Why would I ever drive a Ferrari when I can drive an $800 P.O.S. thirty year old car with a salvage title? I can park it anywhere I like without locking the doors, and I never worry about parking lot damage at all. I probably won't even notice it.
