Right now, there's a fund drive going on to help this become law. As a Mainer, I would be so proud if my state were the first in the nation to approve this by popular vote. Polls are looking good, with a majority of Mainers favoring legalizing same-sex marriage. If you can spare the cash, we've got a matching grant of $100,000 from one of the Facebook founders. As Maine goes, so goes the nation!

(12,033 posts)Every other state with gay marriage got it through legislative means -- with some of them overturning it through popular vote. This vote in Maine is huge because it signals that the populace, at last, is ready to move on with it.

(40,416 posts)You can't swallow a whole moose all at once. You have eat it one moose steak at a time.
Sometimes these difficult social issues pan out only over generational time periods. A whole moose is a lot of meat to eat at one sitting.
Maybe the Mainer's seem to like moose meat.
Did I milk that analogy -- please not the moose -- enough?
Go Maine, from a Michigander. No, we don't have moose, but we do have wolverines on Isle Royale. Wouldn't want to milk one of those either.

(10,237 posts)Hello from Augusta, Maine!
When my 12 year old son found out that his 2 favorite aunts couldn't marry each other (yet) he was ROYALLY pissed off like his parents.
I anticipate and expect that I will, again, be very proud of my adopted home state.
PEACE!
