Aren't there regulations for keeping venomous snakes, safety training, a requirement to have some sort of permit or license... oh, never mind, it's Texas. He should have just bought a gun.

Apparently his mother owned an exotic pet store in Temple.

The whole story is weird.

I'm sorry he's dead but that poor creature didn't deserve to be kept in captivity.

It's cruel to keep animals in tiny enclosures so that you can brag about how brave you are to your pals.

Want a critter who won't kill you and a friend for life?

Go to a local shelter and adopt a homeless animal.

Lost on someone like this unfortunately. I thought owning something like this was illegal, it should be but even so he's dead. Pretty final.

I love snakes but would never keep one as a pet. They belong in the wild.

I get very excited when I see one on our place and do everything I can to protect them. They should not be kept as pets, sorry...I feel that about a lot of animals that are kept and aren't allowed a normal life.

Police: Father throws napkin holder at son after he spills macaroni noodles

AUSTIN -- A man is charged with a third degree felony after he threw a metal napkin holder at his 6-year-old son, according to an arrest affidavit.

According to police, on April 16 police responded to a family disturbance call. When police arrived, they noticed a boy with a black colored bruise and a swollen cheek.

The boy told police that a day earlier, his father, 42-year-old Eduardo Vasquez Moreno, became mad after he spilled three macaroni noodles on the floor. Moreno threw a metal napkin holder across the table, hitting his son.
Moreno is charged with injury to a child, a third degree felony. His bond is set at $2,500.

CAPTIVE CARE AND BREEDING OF THE MONOCLE COBRA
Naja naja kaouthia
By: William Beard

... They are extremely venomous and can be incredibly dangerous snakes ... They are also smart, fast, and aggressive. This leaves no room for error; your first mistake may be your last! ... The first thing to consider is setting a “bite protocol”:

- Find an MD trained in envenomations and administering antivenom correctly. Also, make sure there is antivenom available to you.
- Post your MDs phone number and the hospital you need to go to in a visible spot in your facility.
- Have a cell phone, car keys, and restriction bandages at arms reach at all times.

With these things handy, and if a bite does occur, you are ready to rock n' roll ...
