Make no mistake, most of Donald Trump's support is coming from the Tea Party. For years, the Republican Party had given their baby everything they wanted so long as they promised not to run away from home.
But now, they are in love with Donald Trump. They like his message of hate and division in regards to immigration. Their Party had neglected or put on the back burner, the issue that they most care about.
Now, Repulbicans find themselves in a bind. How do they take back the Tea Party from Donald Trump. It's a Catch-22 for them. If they disagree with the Donald, they run the risk of losing the Tea Party votes and, most likely, the next election. If they agree with the Donald, they run the risk of alienating a large portion of America, especially Latino voters.
The heat is on.

(13,626 posts)predictable. It was ammusing last time. Trump may have more staying power with the position he's put himslef and the Republican party in.
Last time, as soon as the scum formed on top, everyone was in love with the clown of the week, only to see him fade and be replaced. I can't remember the order but for a time Newt was their man, Cain for a few, the Huckster may have gotten close to the top and we all remember the definition of "Santorum"! Then they settled on Robme, he was going to be the one! It's going to really be something this time, seeing who they get stuck with!

(33,688 posts)It is now readily apparent to anyone living in the reality based world that the Republican party now resembles nothing so much as the last act of a Frankenstein movie. You know how it goes - Doctor Frankenstein creates a monster from mis-matched cadaver parts and a criminal mind and proceeds to imbue it with a sort of artificial life. In our little scenario the part of Doctor F. is played by KKKarl Rove, the Kochroach brothers, Sheldon Adelson and their ilk. The monster is played by the religulously insane, the Randians and the tealiban.
The problem is always the same in Frankenstein movies: the monster winds up running amok, causing all sorts of holy hell, often killing a few villagers in the process. Eventually said villagers wise up and head for the good doctor's castle, let's call it the Republican party, with pitchforks and torches, to end the havoc. Which is the point we are at today.
So what is Doctor Frankenstein to do? The monster is now knocking down the castle around his ears and the mob is at the gates. Does he kill the monster? If so, how? Does he blow up the castle and run for his life, in the probably vain hope that he can escape from the furious mob and that the monster will be killed? If he stays, the monster will knock down the castle and kill him.
There are no good solutions, Doc. You are terminally fucked. Kiss your ass goodbye.
