Cracked down on Vatican bank money laundering, too.

If he could do right by gays and women, I might show up at mass just to be able to drop some bills into the collection plate.

This one is less ostentatious than Ratzinger, but the gold chair and the red velvet and the five hundred dollar shoes are just locked in various storerooms about the Vatican. It's not gone. The wealth is still there.

Something about a lovely palace residence plus a summer home, albeit currently occupied by a long-term squatter and labor that has taken a vow of poverty.

There was a lot more to the post than that. However, DU's search feature is not cooperating, so I cannot provide a link.

In a dramatic speech to the UN in September 2006, Mr Chavez famously described then US President George W Bush as the "Devil".

"The Devil is right at home. The Devil, the Devil himself, is right in the house.

"And the Devil came here yesterday. Yesterday the Devil came here. Right here. (crosses himself) And it smells of sulphur still today.

"Yesterday, ladies and gentlemen, from this rostrum, the president of the United States, the gentleman to whom I refer as the Devil, came here, talking as if he owned the world. Truly. As the owner of the world."
