WASHINGTON — A group of high-profile Republican strategists is working with a conservative billionaire on a proposal to mount one of the most provocative campaigns of the “super PAC” era and attack President Obama in ways that Republicans have so far shied away from . . .

. . . The group suggested hiring as a spokesman an “extremely literate conservative African-American” who can argue that Mr. Obama misled the nation by presenting himself as what the proposal calls a “metrosexual, black Abe Lincoln.”

A copy of a detailed advertising plan was obtained by The New York Times through a person not connected to the proposal who was alarmed by its tone. It is titled “The Defeat of Barack Hussein Obama: The Ricketts Plan to End His Spending for Good”

. . . The 54-page proposal was professionally bound and illustrated with color photographs, indicating that it is far beyond a mere discussion. The strategists have already contacted Larry Elder, a black conservative radio host in Los Angeles, about serving as a spokesman, and the plan calls for a group of black business leaders to endorse the effort. The strategists have also registered a domain name, Character Matters.

I know this has already been posted, but I'd just like to repeat this for anyone who has any doubts about the dangerousness of republicans opposing President Obama and their penchant for divisive, race-based attacks.

It's not as if I believe such a campaign would do more than attract and give comfort to the already-established subset of republican supporters who long for a return to the days of Jim Crow and can't seem to find their way into the 21st century. It's just that I believe these raving lunatics should be hounded and shamed for their prejudice and slander until they're afraid to show themselves in public again. Of course, this stuff always has the potential to catch fire and generate an new wave of bigotry and divisiveness.

Yet, responded to in a forceful and direct manner, it also can have the effect of marking the republican party for good with what they've devolved into over the past few decades. It's not as if this is some new thinking from the right-wing. They've been in a perpetual campaign against minorities, women, immigrants, and every other group or individual they believe they can contrast their imagined privileged status with to attract their lowest common denomination and jack-up membership in their old boys club.

I'd like to believe they're sealing their own fate with this divisive nonsense, but that won't happen unless this offensive rhetoric is put in its place and we ensure they find the separation they're seeking as we isolate the cretins into obscurity.

If anyone EVER doubted that our Democratic President is under direct and sustained attack by racist pigs who make up the bulk of the republican party, this revelation should convince once and for all that they aren't interested in anything more than tearing America apart at the seams for their petty political gain.

Contrast that with President Obama's campaign which is all about bringing Americans together to resolve our nation's challenges and difficulties. The choice couldn't be clearer. Take one step toward the republican party and you are tainted with every racist, sexist, misogynistic, homophobic, classist utterance these republican party supporters and regulars engineer.

is Joe Ricketts and family. These people own Ameritrade and the Chicago Cubs! 1%er's. I bet romney knows more baseball team owners.

Brian Baker, who heads the conservative super PAC supported by Ricketts, said Ricketts would not approve the scheme, as it "reflects an approach to politics that Mr. Ricketts rejects."
