Rand Paul reax to same-sex marriage being legalized: Get Government Out of Marriage Business

Rand Paul, the Republican senator and presidential aspirant who has said same-sex marriage “offends” him and others, has a proposal in the wake of the Supreme Court’s marriage equality ruling: Get government out of the marriage business altogether.

Paul, who has previously said he favors some sort of contract, but not marriage, for same-sex couples, expanded on that idea in an op-ed published on Time’s website Sunday night.

“While I disagree with Supreme Court’s redefinition of marriage, I believe that all Americans have the right to contract,” Paul writes. He worries that this “redefinition” will infringe on the religious freedom of those who don’t support marriage equality.

“The government should not prevent people from making contracts but that does not mean that the government must confer a special imprimatur upon a new definition of marriage,” he writes. “Perhaps the time has come to examine whether or not governmental recognition of marriage is a good idea, for either party.”

Just keep this little tidbit in mind the next time you see someone whose reaction to the achievement of equality in same-sex marriage is to "get government out of the marriage business"--especially if they're linking polygamy to the legalization of same-sex marriage.

In Europe if you want to get married you go to a magistrate who marries you and signs the paperwork. You can get a church wedding afterwards but the legal marriage is the one performed by the civil official. Unlike here the priest cannot sign the marriage certificate to validate it.

Some will define it based on their religion and some will define it in strictly legal terms and some will define it based on the society and culture they live in.

That's why religion needs to stay out of government.

Medical decisions, inheritances, court testimony, health, life, and disability insurance, pensions, retirement savings, child custody, and bankruptcy.

Just off the top of my head while sitting in a doctor's waiting room.

And as long as court decisions affect things on that list, marriage and government will be entwined.

So... I think I pie-hole needs a good shutting.
