In the latest backlash against Confederate monuments, the statue commonly known as "Silent Sam" at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was found vandalized on Sunday — with statements spray-painted all around it, saying: "Black Lives Matter," "KKK," and "Murderer.” It’s part of a trend that one prominent historian says is a good thing that “shows progress."

I think it's irresponsible for a historian to promote an activity that can haunt a young person forever, when there are legal alternatives - adding to barriers that young person already faces
