-snip-
During an interview with MSNBC at the Hanks Yanks Golf Classic at Trump Golf Links, Giuliani called Trump "a very good man" and "an unbiased, unprejudiced man." Giuliani said he believed Trump meant to say that most undocumented immigrants just come to the U.S. to work.
"But then, because people can come in illegally, terrorists, drug dealers, rapists, murderers, all of whom Ive prosecuted at one time or another, are able to get in," he added. "I would have said it differently, but I do think hes gotten onto an issue thats important, which is making our border secure."
"Weve failed at it for quite some time and we need to have a plan so that we stop people from coming into this country without identifying themselves. Even if most of them are good people, if a few of them can set off bombs, if a few of them can kill people like one did over the weekend, if a few of them can rape people, then what are we doing? Giuliani continued.
The former mayor said Trump "hit on the right point."

People cannot see inside you. They determine who you are by what you say and what you do. Make sure you presenting yourself as you wish to be known, because to the world, that is who you are.

As a counter to the old saw, "You can't judge a book by its cover," I have long thought that if I see a book with a virile man clasping a buxom woman to his chest, I can be pretty certain it is not a math book, a how-to-do-your-taxes book, or a cook book.
I think it was Maya Angelou who said, "When people show you who they are, believe them."

(21,925 posts)Giuliani cannot salvage what Trump said. Trump never said it was just "a few" illegals committing rape. His comment made it seem like most if not all Mexicans coming over the border were rapists:
"When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best," he said. "They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists."
It sounds like Trump was saying they are all potential rapists in the absolute. To compound the problem, Trump said some Mexicans MAY be good people. That doesn't sound like he's convinced that any of them are good people.
I think there are very valid arguments to be made in favor of controlling our borders. Every country on Earth has a right to inspect who is entering that country. It's the will of the American people, through its government that has decided that no single nation can exceed 7% of total annual immigration through legal immigration (with certain limited exceptions). By ensuring limits on immigration from any one nation, it keeps the United states as a melting pot with peoples coming from all over the world. It's unhealthy for a nation to have too many immigrants of any one single foreign culture or foreign national background. But what Trump said was racist and ugly. I think Trump's inflammatory comments will prevent any rational debate of the important issue of immigration.
