"Jeb's wife is Mexican"

I have heard this term before and now, again, after Jeb responded to Trump.

Even at a recent LBN story

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10141137741

She is American. At most, Mexican American. After all, Teresa Heinz Kerry was born in Mozambique but not one ever referred to her as Mozambiquan, or African or... African American.

So why not refer to Columba is "born in Mexico" or Mexican American?

We know that this issue will be hinted at during the Republican primaries and we can just munch on our popcorn and watch, but I don't understand why the various news sources refer to her as "Mexican."

not that it matters to me, since I was born in Mexico City. And I did not know that about Theresa Heinz Kerry. Nice tidbit showing just how bad both racism and partisanship are getting.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columba_Bush#Early_life

Columba Bush was born in León, Guanajuato, Mexico, the daughter of José María Garnica Rodríguez (1925-2013), a migrant worker and waiter from Arperos, Guanajuato, and Josefina Gallo Esquivel (born 1920) from León, who were married in 1949. Her father abandoned the family when she was 3 years old in 1956. Her parents were divorced in 1963 when Columba was 10 years old. She remained in León with her mother while her father emigrated to the United States.

She attended Instituto Antonia Mayllen, a private Catholic school in the historic center of León.

She met Jeb Bush in 1970 in León when she was 16 years old and he was 17. He was teaching English as a second language and assisting in the building of a school in a small village outside of León, Guanajuato, Mexico, (the village of Ibarrilla) as part of a class at Andover called Man and Society.

I am fortunate to know a good many people who are Mexican and whose families came from Mexico.

Why would anyone but a fascist have a problem with that?

She was born in Mexico of Mexican parents who later on emigrated to the US.

Either way, that's not the reason why I wouldn't vote for Jeb. If anything, his marriage is a plus IMO.

racism they faced in Texas. Reading between the lines, *who* can we guess gave the happy couple the racism?!1 Might I suggest this scenario: Mrs JEBster walks into a banquet room full of Repuke trophy wives and waves of muffled snickering flow across the room, and for sure the "jokes" about, "I thought she was my maid." Poppy's "my little Brown ones (grandchildren)" even fits.

At this late date, Mittens ROMNEY continues to show his cluelessness, referring to "Mexicans" and "Mexican Americans" interchangeably. Not to mention that wingnuts constantly claim Dems want the VOTES of (undocumented immigrants). Uh, non-U.S. citizens can't vote. Besides that the ones who are here are so preoccupied with *surviving* and mostly clueless about politics here that they have near zero interest in the luxury of voting.

“Do you think Donald Trump’s comments on Mexicans have hurt the Republican Party?” a reporter asked Romney in video carried on CNN on Saturday.

“Yes, I think he made a severe error in saying what he did about Mexican-Americans,” Romney replied. “And it’s unfortunate.”

Send buffoon Trump out to make incendiary comments about Mexicans and Jeb gets an opportunity to look "moderate" and the GOP can remind potential latino voters that "Jeb's wife is Mexican".
