Chris Christie wore his smiley face on Morning Joe today...

let's just say his handlers have probably given him a drastic makeover in losing the ugly snarly face. So now we have Gov. Happy. He smiled at every softball lobbed at him, Mr. straight talk that he is...pretty soon they'll have kittens for him to carry around and cuddle while he's being interviewed...

any of those. They probably know that they will rattle him so badly he'll lose it right on live TV. Matthews in particular, but I think Rachel would get to him cuz she's a woman and a gay one at that and I'm sure he is blinded by both his misogyny and his homophobia...these rat bastard bigots can't take it...

sorry about your spinal problems. My husband has had two surgeries for his spinal issues. He does strengthening exercises every day and we have some handicap accessible features added to our house. But that means I have to take on more work and hire help to do the heavy cleaning and some laundry. There's only so much I can do and I'm constantly devising "strategies" to deal with it all. It gets frustrating...my own doctor has diagnosed me with "caregiver stress." The problem is that i am already hypertensive and now am on quite a bit of powerful drugs to keep my bp under control. It worries me...which is why I do meditating...

I worry about my husband taking on so much also. I have a walker in the house and that helps. After I fell flat on my back in the garage, going up ONE stair, my husband had a railing installed. Sucks so much to be disabled. I also meditate. I think it's the only thing that keeps me going sometimes. Well, that and the hope that my spinal fusion surgery will "fix" me.

You do need to take care of yourself. You are important too! And as you've probably been told, you won't be any help to him if you fall apart. I don't know what I'd do if my husband had very serious issues right now.

because he was getting worse, not better from the first surgery. The neurosurgeon said "Your wife looks like she's ready to jump out of a window..." and that was about the size of it! Hubby was unable to come downstairs and I was having to bring meals up to him. Clearly, something was wrong...

We have stairs, but only to the basement. I'd have to get one of those electric chairs that take you up and down if I had to use stairs every day.

What was his first surgery? Has he ever had a spinal fusion?

unfortunately, he experienced a stroke/heart attack awhile back and can no longer perform surgeries. I felt just terrible when I heard the news.

I forget what the diagnosis was actually...but the doc just didn't want to do the fusion unless all else failed. I was scared to death before we got the second diagnosis of the ruptured disc...I thought the first surgery had failed...it was actually a relief that it was something so straightforward as a ruptured disc.

He did have to go back in for extended inpatient rehab, however and spent three weeks in it enabling me to make the house handicap accessible. A physical therapist visited the house and outlined everything that needed to be done. My handiman was able to do it all so when hubby came home it was all done!

I was so hoping for something less extreme, but maybe this will do the trick. I can't imagine that recovery will be worse than what I go through every day. Last night I really went downhill. I usually have little to no pain at night, but last night I ended up taking 4 tramadols, 6 hours apart. Right now I am almost shaking with pain. Going to need to take more tramadol, which I hate doing. This week I will get an epidural. That always helps.

I hope your husband is not in too much pain. Chronic pain is just the worst.

I cannot tolerate Tramadol. I took one as prescribed for my spinal arthritis and it did nothing. The doc said I could take two but when I did I became so dizzy I couldn't stand up. It was horrible.

I hope you get relief from the epidural. I am getting cortisone injections for my lower spine from my rheumatologist and they are working pretty well. I have no adverse reactions at all and no dizziness...

The only painkiller I can take that works is hydracodone and that is powerful stuff. So I rarely take it. I have an anti-spasmodic for my arthritic pain which I sometimes take in the night, but I try to start out with super strength Tylenol for arthritis. I prefer the non-prescription drug if at all possible. Exercises for my back are good, too...no drugs, no extra costs!

Have you seen a chronic pain doctor? I don't know anything about them but it's worth a try...I have a family friend, an anesthesiologist who has a chronic pain specialist on his staff.

Good luck to you Moon River. Hope you are better after your epidural...keep in touch...

The group I get my epidurals from are pain managers. They've been working with me for a year and a half. I've had P.T., massage therapy and sessions with a chiropractor. After all that my pain doctor suggested surgery. It really is the last ditch option, but I am more than ready. I have the best spine surgeon in our area, and stats for success are over 85%. I'll take that.

Regarding tramadol, it hasn't bothered me. I take Aleve every day too, which I also tolerate well. I will have to stop the Aleve a couple of weeks before surgery. Ugh.

I'll let you know how things go. Please keep me updated about you and your husband's health.

for better or worse, we live in a media driven world today. I would prefer to see a debate with him on what he said today about Social Security...Mark Zuckerberg wouldn't get it, he said...that is a good debating point and I wish we had been able to see a debate right then and there on what happens to means tested programs...

sigh, won't happen til hopefully the debates...till then, it's all a media show...
