After Supreme Court decisions that affirmed same-sex marriage and the Affordable Care Act and a tumultuous session of the Nebraska Legislature, attendees at an Omaha conservative rally on Friday made the case for smaller, limited government.

Gov. Pete Ricketts, U.S. Sen. Ben Sasse, and Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert were among the politicians who spoke at the Nebraska Taxpayers for Freedom rally at Walnut Grove Park at 150th and Q Streets.

Attendees waved flags and chowed down on hamburgers and hot dogs as speakers talked about the need to curb government spending and preserve the ideals outlined in the U.S. Constitution.

Sasse denounced the recent decisions by the high court and what he called an activist bench of justices who are going beyond the powers that the Constitution gives them.
