Jeez, talk about INSENSITIVE!

On my local ABC affiliate based right here in New Haven they had a segment on a guy who sells flags from a truck here in the city. And right there they had a shot of the Confederate battle flag flying on his truck!

http://wtnh.com/2015/07/03/confederate-gay-pride-flags-trump-old-glory-sales-this-4th-of-july/

Here we've got a bunch of patriots from the Revolutionary War buried right on our New Haven Green and in our historic Grove Street cemetery. And the old historic churches that existed in Revolutionary War time. We've got so damn much great history and they have to show this garbage?

I simply could not believe they would not cut out that footage and just show the other flags he was selling, which were interesting and varied. They were almost advertising the availability of that rag for the worst racists to come out and buy one...

Hope the station is getting an earful from the local viewers. What an insult to us all, esp. members of the black community who rely on the station for local news and weather. I feel sorry for the rest of the staff there. So many of the younger ones pulled holiday duty today. I'm posting my complaint on their website...

Who makes the decision to play such stuff at local stations?

2. A couple of phrases come to mind:

let sleeping dogs lie....and don't stir up a hornets nest.

I'm not sure it serves any positive purpose at this time to promote the flag, either positively or negatively?

6. It seemed gratuitous. Especially since our city is so replete with history of that time.

There are old etchings and drawings of what our city looked like at that time. Tours are conducted regularly for visitors. The station could have also interviewed Yale historians who could discuss New Haven's involvement in the Revolution and what the Yale campus looked like (Yale was founded in 1701).

So much of interest and they devote time to a guy who sells the Confederate flag out of a truck? Plus, they did it under the guise of "freedom."

I gave them all kinds of hell in an email to the station. Hope they get a ton more and have to apologize on air.

And how many will NOT purchase anything from the guy who sells the Confederate flags? How many more will be just as pissed at the station for giving him free advertising?

air and a very popular person in our community. She does a great job with her reports and I love watching her when she appears. I will probably speak to her about it to find out if the station has been getting lots of negative feedback. I'll bet she is appalled as she is a wonderful person and a great neighbor.

me staring at it and left. The I went shopping and ran into some idiot wearing a military style hat with a confederate flag on top of it. Gave him a dirty look also.

It is perfectly legal for them to display the damned thing but I do not have to like it.

8. That's why I wrote to the station this morning. I am a viewer, a consumer of their news

about our community. The station had a lot of discretion in showing this piece and deeply disappointed and saddened many who watch it, I am sure.

we have hair cuts and tatoos , sports teams and fashion .Our flags are displayed to show our turmoil from the search for identity to be part of something .
