3. The real citizenship test isn't multiple choice

You have to answer 10 questions selected from a possible 100 - and you don't get options to choose from.

instead of multiple choice.

I still thought "Judge Judy" was funny as hell.

I would have been excoriated had I not been able to answer those questions in grammar school!

Oddly enough, I learned a lot of my "American" history from foreign teachers, as I spent a good bit of my youth outside USA...~!

I always regarded my citizenship as a great privilege. It's a very good passport, and a very good country, even with our faults.

4. Could you pass it when not presented as a ridiculously easy multiple choice quiz?
Sat Jul 4, 2015, 08:54 AM
Jul 2015

Here are 10 of the potential questions with no multiple choice.

1. How many amendments does the Constitution have?

2. The House of Representatives has how many voting members?

3. Name your U.S. Representative.

4. If both the President and the Vice President can no longer serve, who becomes President?

5. When was the Constitution written?

6. The Federalist Papers supported the passage of the U.S. Constitution. Name one of the writers.

7. Who was President during World War I?

8. Before he was President, Eisenhower was a general. What war was he in?

9. Name one of the two longest rivers in the United States.

10 During the Cold War, what was the main concern of the United States?

Not super hard - but not as much of a walk in the park as that silly quiz.

How many could you answer without looking them up?

9. That's 7th grade American History and Civics, right there.

The only question with any variation would be number three!

Question 1, though, is a "depends" response that requires more clarity--does the answer want the total number of amendments that have been adopted by Congress, or the total number that were ratified by the States? I'm guessing the latter, but the wording could be tighter!

Question 8 is a little quirky--does one want to know which war Ike was in AS A GENERAL? Because he did serve--albeit "in the rear with the gear" stateside--in WW1, too!

Sadly, a lot of folks have forgotten that information.

I would bet that most Americans couldn't tell you how many voting members of the House of Representatives there are, for instance.

And anyone with half a memory is re-taught those numbers any time a tight vote comes up! CNN et. al, do their part, with their cute little graphs of blue and red seats in a half-circle shape, that blink or change color, depending on how individual reps vote!!

You got 13 out of 10 correct. Don't forget to use the icons below to let your friends know about the quiz and to challenge them to beat your score.

I think they may have a problem with their algorithm.

The civics test is an oral test. During your naturalization interview, you will be asked up to 10 questions from the list of 100 questions. You must answer 6 out of 10 questions correctly to pass the civics portion of the naturalization test.

Here is the Gov practice page link http://www.uscis.gov/citizenship/quiz/learners/study-test/study-materials-civics-test/naturalization-self-test-1
