How Dangerous is it to be a Cop?.....

Granted a tough job, dealing with alcoholism and the mentally disturbed, domestic violence, rage-aholics, etc .. No doubt they should be paid well and given good benefits.

But please... The discussion of how dangerous on a life and death level it is to be a cop must be put in perspective.. Below is an article from a Libertarian Source, The Freeman.. Should be noted I’m not a big Ayn Rand/milton freeman fan..

It rates them, separately, by different categories. Under the category of "Which of these workers is most likely to die on the job?" police officers are under 13 other jobs. Under the category of "Which occupation has the highest number of deaths due to violence?", police officers are second, taxi drivers are first. I found it a very interesting read:

A good friend of mine is a traffic accident investigator for the LAPD. He has little risk in his work. His son, on the other hand, runs an LAPD task force charged with taking illegal weapons off the streets. I imagine his job is magnitudes more dangerous than most other jobs throughout the States.
