My new hero Bree Newsome

This whole 'we need 2/3rd votes to take it down' is bullshit.

Governor Haley could just order it down and it is the right thing to do yet she caters to the racist right who wants to keep it flying.

Does my heart good all of this.

I worked for Gay Mecca, the City of West Hollywood, for over 10 years and still have many friends there. This is a great day for the USA.

Bree Newsome was about halfway up the more than 30-foot steel flagpole just after dawn Saturday when State Capitol police told her to come down. Instead, she continued climbing and removed the flag before returning to the ground.

I had already tweeted it. The OP originally didn't have the name. That's why the first few replies are giving her the name, Bree Newsome

But I appreciate it!

Now they can just leave it down and ignore the situation. No one needs to vote or say something that will hurt them politically.

Now someone needs to put a smiley face flag in it's place. You know...the one invented by good ole' southern boy Forrest Gump!

Those cops could easily have put the flag back...wonder why they didn't? Obviously none of them wanted to be held responsible for putting it up.

And must be kept in storage for the trial! Of course, that wouldn't stop some white supremacist group from getting another one to put up - but another activist could take it down, too.

I wish she had put up a Juneteenth flag in it's place: http://www.juneteenthflag.com/

Like Rosa Parks before her, this was not a spontaneous act, nor was it her first activism. But it may well be the act for which she makes social justice history:

The whole legal issue of getting congress to vote on it is such BS. Just order it down and deal with the legal issues later.

brave individuals, Bree Newsome and James Ian Dyson. It is more than fitting that two of different races contributed to this act of defiance, I give props where props are due and it is symbolic that a POC did this act of defiance to the racist ideals of nikki and her neo-confederate allies. Nikki? Lip service. Bree? Walking the walk.

Because the flag that Bree Newsome removed is evidence and should be kept by the police or the court until her trial is over. Her attorneys should require that.

Force the white supremacists who insist on this divisive monument to replace it - over and over and over.
