With his usual Bible-based stupidity...
Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, reacted with guns blzaing, calling the ruling a civilization-changing decision that destroys our nations heritage of Biblical marriage. May God forgive our Supreme Court majority for its arrogance and its self-apotheosis. Invoking biblical history, he warned, Both Moses and Jesus stated that it was Gods law that a man will leave his father and mother and a woman will leave her home and the two will come together as one. That defined marriage
The Supreme Court ruling is heartbreaking for the turmoil it will mean for our nations future. Gohmert indicated two justices should have recused themselves, observing, It is clear beyond any doubt that Justices Kagan and Ginsberg have held exceedingly strong opinions that same-sex marriages were constitutional by virtue of their having performed them. He further warned, f Moses, Jesus, and contributors to the Bible were correct, Gods hand of protection will be withdrawn as future actions from external and internal forces will soon make clear. I will do all I can to prevent such harm, but I am gravely fearful that the stage has now been set.

(24,774 posts)so now these blithering idiots get to blame anything/everything bad that happens on this ruling.
Why do we even bother giving them a platform?
Oh, that's right: equally stupid shits voted them in.

(95,337 posts)I do not use my faith as a tool to take random bible verses to say this is why I hate.
People need to read the gospels and the actual words of Jesus. He was about love, tolerance and accepting others. He never once condemned homosexuality. That was Old Testament, which outside the 10 commandments is not the laws Christians follow (even chick-fil-a breaks Old Testament laws with selling stuff with bacon) and the guy after Jesus was not one of his disciples. (Paul)
Same sex marriage doesn't change who I am as a Christian or take away any of my rights as a Christian. So why would I want to deny equality to the LGBT community? And I know many members of the LGBT community are also Christian. Also of other faiths too!
Marriage equality is about love. Why would I deny that to any consenting adults. This asshole from Texas - all he is preaching is hate. Who wants to live a life filled with hate?

(11,927 posts)I try not to be that way, but to see even a spark of good in people. IMO, It's ok to disagree, even say you hate their actions, but not the people themselves.
I never saw it up close to me until I heard and saw with my own eyes my MIL saying Johnny Cochran deserved to die from brain cancer. I was fighting my own battle with uterine cancer at the time. The hatefulness in her look and the vehemence in her tone. She was like a stranger and I have known her since I was 13 yo (I'm 52 now). This lady who professes to be a Christian, bends over backwards to be publicly recognized as such, showed her true colors that day. I still love her, after all, she's my husband's mother, but I have never thought of or will think of her the same way ever again. I told her that God doesn't use cancer to punish people, and that it was hateful to wish cancer or death on anyone.
Multiply the strength of that hate by how many haters we have out there.... It's scary! It feels like an insurmountable task to turn that around.
