Don't get me wrong. I'm celebrating an amazing week in America. Highs and lows, but lots of highs. ACA, Three-Strikes, Marriage Equality, and the sad reality of why the Confederate flag was finally being taken down. What's not to love?
Well, the treatment of our neighbors is still is an issue. Blacks, Hispanics, any immigrant seems to still be a target. Taking down a flag won't eliminate the hatred. In fact, I would guess this will just inflame the racists even more. But enough...on to my "Lemons out of Lemonade" point.
Women's rights issues. They've taken a beating by this SCOTUS. I feel like Han Solo approaching the Death Star. Bad feeling. Justice Roberts seems to play politics. He is concerned about the portrayal of fairness by the court. That's not really his job, but he lied his way through his confirmation hearing, so we can't really be sure what he really thinks. But now he's got the lefties and many progressives all complacent and happy. These guys are great! Not really...just hyperbole, but you know what I mean.
Then, BOOM. Roe V. Wade is the last hot-button issue the right has left (haha, see what I did there?). We'll lay back. We'll relax. These guys aren't that bad. But they still are that bad. We still have Scalia and Thomas and Alito.
DON'T RELAX. The biggest issue progressive Americans face right now is VOTING. These rulings will turn out the GOP locusts in massive swarms. Hopefully, we won't sit back and think we've already won this one. We've only whacked the hornet's nest.

It's not inevitable that they will screw us if we don't relax.

(31,464 posts)Throw some crumbs to the people they don't really, honestly, care about. Really. I just don't believe these people actually care in the slightest. Their gated community or HOA isn't going to allow any of these blacks, gays, and immigrants in anyway. Toss them a bone, quell the masses. The real important stuff (at least, to them) are all Corporate rulings. TPP, any number of ruling like Hobby Lobby, whatever. They're in it for the money. Unless they're heavily invested in a florist chain, a cake shop, or Domain, they really don't give a shit about marriage equality. We'll all be happy about marriage and health care, meanwhile they'll be pushing for more and more rights for our corporate citizens. We'll all just sit back, glaze-eyed, not knowing what they're talking about.
