Use of Perry logo in independent PAC ad raises questions

The Freedom and Opportunity political action committee supporting Rick Perry used his presidential campaign logo in a new 30-second ad running in Iowa, raising some suspicions of an improper expenditure.

An article in the National Journal explored the law regarding super PACs and what constitutes a campaign contribution.

Independent PACs are not allowed to coordinate activities with a campaign, and the federal election law prohibits their financing the “broadcast or any written, graphic, or other form of campaign materials.”

In the 30-second spot, highlighting Perry’s announcement for president on June 4, the campaign’s logo, along with a banner across an airplane, are prominently displayed.
